Wild Like the Wind
Ok. I read this last night. I am not sure exactly what I felt yet but it is by no means one of my favorites. I'm not saying it is bad, it just didn't connect with me very much. I had two major issues. Number one is that Keely came across as too masculine while I was reading it. This is difficult to explain but the way she talked and the conversations they would have seemed to have her in the usual guy position. Many people found the h calling the H daddy in Knight to be off putting and unpleasant. I wouldn't say it but don't really care either way. In this book Keely refers to herself as mama all the time. Before, during and after sex. I have found that simply does not work for me at all. Maybe if her children weren't basically grown freakin' men (19 and 21 or something like that) I would let it pass on occasion. But not during sex. (H doesn't call her that, she refers to herself as that as in "give mama some of that, etc").
Number two issue is the whole H can't be with her because of loyalty to dead husband crap. There is an obvious divide in the club where the younger guys say lighten up, it's been 18 years ffs! and the older ones just refuse to allow the "disrespect" to the dead guy. I did not like the characterization of Tack in this one. He was rigid and narrow and kind of stupid.
Some of the other reviews I had seen felt that Keely was using Hound for sex and taking advantage of him. I did not see that at all. I did like Hound and found his character interesting, Keely was okay when she dialed back the guy hormones, there was some catch up with other characters that I liked (Never enough of Shy!). So overall it was okay. It felt a bit dragged out with her's and Black's family trying and failing to have an intervention that just kind of fizzled and went nowhere so didn't need to be there at all, felt a bit like throwing in the kitchen sink. I stayed up late finishing it, thought it was okay but probably won't be rereading this anytime soon. The preview of Rush's book sounded good though!
One nitpick I have with some KA books is that they agree to try for a baby (Keely is 43 so at least 44 or older when/if it happens) and neither one seem to be concerned in any way with either getting pregnant or having issues due to h's age. Pregnancy in my 40's would have freaked me out with potential issues and these are never mentioned in KA world.
