Axton - Sam Crescent
I read this last night. The revenge premise sounded good and it started well. Then it just fizzled like a balloon being deflated. I would give it 3 stars because the writing was entertaining and the bones of a good story are there. HOWEVER. Taylor (h) was so ineffective and completely useless with her revenge it was frustrating to read. I am still not quite sure what her plan was.
Spoilery: The fathers of the Four Kings are rich and entitled and untouchable and so are their four boys. One of the boys gets Taylor's (poor) friend pregnant in high school and she dies. Taylor believes she was murdered and 10 years later after much preparation that apparently consisted of hiring an escort and learning all she could about sex, she gets a job with the company the boys run. They inherited this from the dads I guess. The boys all know that two of the dads killed the friend but for some unexplained reason that totally isn't financially motivated, they just "force" them to retire and then never mention it again until Taylor comes along stirring up the pot. Taylor is looking for "evidence" that she figures would still be laying around somewhere and ends up having sex with Axton who is the leader of the new Four Kings. He was an interesting character and I would have liked more of him and his story. So far the story is not bad, some holes but not bad. Then it falls apart when instead of using what she finds, Taylor decides she is the one who is wrong and fervently apologizes to Axton for lying and deceiving him.
They voluntarily covered up the murder of her best friend for financial gain and sat on it for 10 years with no sign of ending that any time soon. And she apologizes and is going to let them get away with it. Obviously they turn in the dads and justice is served. Whatever. She is still apologizing. I officially don't like her now.
Personal turn off sex spoiler as follows:
Spoiler:
I'm not trying to be Ms. Prudzilla here but if there is a scene like that, I would like some lead up or intimation that something like that would be welcomed or encouraged. And if I can't picture how it is being done you need to describe it better cause my imagination isn't that good! I ended up feeling disappointed because it had so much potential that didn't materialize - the whole book not just the sex scene!

Personal turn off sex spoiler as follows:
Spoiler:
There is a sex scene involving all four guys and Taylor near the end that comes out of nowhere. They regularly share women but Axton is so obsessive it really came out of left field that he would do this. There was no conversation about it, he (in a nightclub, I think? It's blurry now) removes her clothes, sits her on his lap and fondles her in front of them before lifting her up and actually having sex with her with the others watching. The way this is described felt awkward and weird. She is on his lap facing the other guys who all have their junk out but Axton is apparently doing all this thrusting, etc. The way they are sitting doesn't support the way he apparently moves. In his mind he is doing this and NOT sharing her to show the other guys that he never will and this is as close as they will ever get. Uh huh. And they got to see that he didn't use a condom so he must be really serious (one actually says that). She goes to clean up and the guys start talking with no mention of cleaning themselves up or if that (you know what I mean) is even necessary. Again they are in a public club. Private section but nothing to stop wait staff or anyone else from walking in on the look but don't touch sexathon. Which is never mentioned again by anyone. What was the point? Either do an all in group thing or don't but this was just stupid.
