I am not going to bother listing the authors I like that have already been listed here. Here are some favorites I don't remember seeing on this thread yet:
Manda Collins (the Studies in Scandal series--sorry, the link goes to the print book listing of the series, but there is a link for the Kindle edition under each title)
There is also a series called the Timeless Anthology series that was organized by Sarah M. Eden and a couple of other authors--they do a mix of contemporary collections and historical collections and they are really good.
Miranda Neville, who unfortunately recently passed away, so we won't get anything new from her but she has 17 published titles (including stories in a few anthologies)
Maya Rodale
Carolyn Jewel
Alexander's Effington Family series was really good and I was able to get most of them from the library so I didn't go broke (there are 11 books in the series).

I tried. I really can't leave any name off.

I've read all of your authors except Sheri Cobb South.
Hi, mlover. I thought Patricia Veryan would be the one most haven't heard of. Sheri Cobb South wrote the wonderful The Weaver Takes a Wife and In Milady's Chamber book one of the John Pickett mysteries. It's a series with mystery and romance that developments gradually. John Pickett is a great character.

These recent posts are making me crazy (in the best possible way). I have a mountain of DTB books, most of which I've read at least once in the "distant" past. I'm trying to make my way through them for two reasons. One is because they are free to me and it saves me money. The other is because my inner OCD child is fussing over the fact that only 2/3 of the books in my database app have been rated and given an accurate last read date.
But now I have all these great recommendations for books I haven't read and authors I haven't tried. The (not-so-secret) romance junkie in me is dancing around singing buy-them-all, buy-them-all. She needs to take a chill pill.
So a sincere and heart-felt thank you to all you ladies for introducing me to great new authors, But.....damn!

Hi Bonnieg----
I have The Weaver Takes a Wife on TBR Kindle. My bad! I don't know Patricia Veryan. Thanks, ML

I've read a couple of Patricia Veryan and she is a great writer. In the 1990s reputation considered to be a cut above all the other authors who churn out one book after another.
Here comes the sun even though I love that rainy day feeling!
Natasha, interesting to know. So many of the HR books I've read lately are just average. ML.

I know what you mean. The best HRs were written IMO before 2000! Here is a link to Patricia Veryan's Wiki page that lists of her books. She is deceased and passed in 2009.

Natasha and mlover - you can also look her up on Fantastic Fiction. It lists all her books, sorted (in-order) by series. Click on a link and you can get to ammie (or others) for that book.

That Fantastic Fiction site is really great, saves a lot of time. I started reading Veryan's books in the 80's when you could get the paperback version cheaper than today. Most of her kindle's are going for 7.99, and my library only has one of her books. But I think they are worth it. She was a great writer. You might want to start with Some Brief Folly or The Wagered Widow, a prequel to her great "Golden Chronicles" series if you are interested in trying a book. Just ignore the covers they have for the kindle versions.
