I know I've read some of these. I have a hard time with these, depending on the age difference. I'm 63 and not really sure I'd want some young puppy looking at me. Things have changed and "gone south" so to speak. How about anyone else?? 🎃

I have to be honest and say I have a hard time with this theme depending on the age difference. If its a small difference, say 5-10 years I'm ok, I think. But as I'm 63 I really would't want some young puppy checking me out now! Things have "gone south" so to speak! I have read some with this theme and did like them but not too many. Anyone else?
I read mostly Historical Romance and majority are OM/YW, but do not like OW/YM, which I've never run across in HRs.
At the same time you posted this I was trying to post on OM/YW an HR by Georgette Heyer...These Old Shades which is a 40 some H and the h is 19, but the link did not work. I consider the age diff in this one too extreme but can't pass up re-reading Heyer's books.

I used to hate books with ow/ym. That was when I was younger. Now that I'm older, I've developed an appreciation for them.

It isn't necessarily the size of age gap, it's that the h is 19 and the H is 40. Add 10 years to each of them and I'd be ok with it. I'm just not comfortable with teens or early 20's hooking up with people so much older than themselves. The relationship doesn't feel balanced as the younger individual hasn't really lived life and has little experience.

I depends on the people, but I get what you're saying. When I married, I was 23 and hubby was 2 months shy of 40. We've been married 21 years. He just turned 61 the beginning of this month.

You're right. It really does depend on the people and their maturity level. Congratulations to you, agreads for 21 years with your sweetheart!
I believe the maturity level of women in their late teens during the Regency period to be very unsophisticated and unworldly. Among the aristocrats in most of their marriages they are always paired with a wealthy older man to keep their lineage going/financial issues etc., so these were usually loveless marriages. These women were very sheltered while learning domesticity, and also rarely even saw a man disrobed. So I personally cannot compare the age difference in recent modern history/now in any way or even blink an eye at any age difference whether it be om/yw or ow/ym in real life. But for some reason do not like the difference of ow/ym in my reading of contemporary books.
Jane Austen wrote of the om/yw in Sense and Sensibility. This is the movie version and the OM was (truly missed by me) the great actor Alan Rickman. If you love HR you've got to see this film.

I have read a single book with this subject and I don't even remember its name. I prefer to read OM/YW books.
And well I don't know if its because I like older men myself but I don't find a '40 year old dude with a 19 year old girl' something icky. As long as she's legal and willing I don't have a problem with this. At the end of the day they're both adults and both of them can make their own life choices.
I think agreads it's the perfect example of this! I'm so thrilled for you, I hope you and your hubby are very happy!
I don't normally read this theme as I personally could not find a much younger man to be an attractive partner. This book however is really cute and sweet and sexy! I liked the dialogue and the romance. The age gap wasn't too big actually but the Hero is teased by his friends as a boy toy.

Laurann Dohner and an ow/ym book?? How have I not discovered this? I must read it now......
