Ok full confession. I am not actually finished this yet. I am at around 90%. The only reason I am going to finish this is because I have never DNF'd a Laurann Dohner book and don't want to start now. This is so freaking boring!!!! I can read most books in 2-3 hours. I read very fast. Unless I am bored and sweet baby jesus I am so bored with this!! Aside from my previous complaints of beefy ass descriptions (side of mooing cow anyone?), there is no spark, no energy, no effort whatsoever. Everything in this is bland with the exception of the relationship between the h and her grandfather which to be honest has uncomfortably strong cringy inappropriate moments. Keep in mind they look the same age as he is a vamp so doesn't age and she ages slowly. They sometimes "pretend" that she is his blood slave/sex toy (including him biting her, even the H is grossed out by this) so people don't figure out that she is his granddaughter. Can anyone give me a EEEEEWWWWWW!!!!!!!
She won't agree to mate bond or whatever with the beefy assed H because she wants grampa to approve first. So much for the "overpowering" mate urge. She implies she will choose grampa if he approves or not so suck it up H. And grampa has been kidnapped through almost the entire book so is not present and still their relationship as described by the h is an icky one with her constant comments on how young and good looking and charismatic he is (does she know grampa is not the H?) and yet boring at the same time.
I admit this bored me to tears so I was not paying much attention but at one point they go to the river (where everyone swims, etc) to get the sheets that H has pinned to the bottom because apparently he has no washing machine? Does this work? He strips off to get the sheets so his clothes don't get wet, redresses and picks up the bundle of wet sheets to carry them back to his cabin where he has a dryer. A dryer but no washer? Wet sheets? Aren't his clothes getting wet carrying this back to the cabin? The big confrontation is a major let down when I spend most of it speculating on the wet sheet, no washer but a dryer situation more than the climactic end fight which ended in about 20 seconds. It is just wrap up from here but I really don't think I will bother with the next one in this particular series. Still looking forward to a New Species entry but not as much as I was before this.
And once again the amazon reviews are mostly 5 stars. I really do wonder sometimes if everyone is reading the same copy that I am. I want to send all of them a list of excellent books to read cause if anyone thinks this is a 5 star read, they need all the exposure to actual good books they can get. Just because the author is a name you have heard of, doesn't automatically make it good people!!!
