In this dystopian, post-apocalyptic society there are alphas, betas and omegas. Shepherd is an alpha and he's the alpha of the alphas. Claire is an omega. Omegas are highly sought after and prized. Alphas have been known to kill omegas mates to steal the omega. When Shepherd smells Claire the first time they meet, he knows she's an omega and kills 10 men to claim her. Then he kidnaps her and keeps her locked in his bedroom. Claire hates Shepherd but he's very patient with her. He dotes on her and tries to win her affection. He wants her love. He doesn't rape her nor does forced seduction occur technically but it's debatable. She doesn't want to sleep with him and he doesn't force her but he does take advantage of her. He waits for her omega hormones to take over and then mates and bonds with her. The bond is a choice the alpha makes. Claire is very upset he bonded her to him because he again took away her choice. He doesn't care. She's his. Period.
Gradually, Claire softens a bit towards him and then one day the ow shows up. The H is supposedly in love with ow and has been for years, yet he hasn't seen the ow for months. Ow sleeps with om and he's ok with it. He's not possessive of her. He is, however, very possessive of Claire. He's OTT crazy possessive of her. She's his! The ow then sexually attacks Claire and Shepherd walks in. Claire is traumatized but rather than comfort her, he send her to their bathroom and then proceeds to have sex with the ow on their bed. Claire hears everything. She cries the entire time and it breaks her. Shepherd like a dumb-a*s didn't realize it would hurt her so badly. He told her he had to sleep with the ow to save her life. (Remember ow is an alpha.)
This was an awful situation but what made it palatable was the homage that Addison Cain paid towards the heroine's pain. It wasn't glossed over and the way the h handled it was perfect. I loved what she did and boy did she make the H suffer. I loved that even more, lol. (I wanted him to suffer.)
All 3 books progress an overall story arc about the rebellion and trying to overthrow the government of the dome. Book 1 ends on a cliffy as Claire takes action to deal with Shepherd's betrayal. Book 2 deals with Shepherd trying to make up for what he did in book 1. It was great but it also ends on a cliffy. Book 3 continues their relationship. The first half of the book was good. The second half was awful. I don't recommend reading book 3 unless you read the reviews and are prepared. It's one of the worst endings for a book I've ever read and I've read thousands of books, so that's saying something.
Like I said before, Addison Cain is extremely talented and her stories are engrossing. I do recommend book 1 and 2 if you can handle the triggers and if you like OTT, crazy, non-pc, jealous/possessive heroes.

Samantha K - Thank you very much for the detailed response! A couple of months ago I poured over reviews and no one explained why, iirc. I hate cheating but sometimes with a warning and certain reasoning I can get over it and enjoy the book. I think I read that he cheats again with the same OW at the beginning of book 2? Oh yeah and that series ending sounds horrific! For some reason, I am still thinking about reading this. I have read that this author is amazing though people seem universally ticked about the ending.... gah.
alyrica - You're welcome. I think if you're prepared and ok with the cheating (not that we like it) and for this psycho OTT controlling & crazy j/p H, you might like it. When I say OTT controlling - he's like one of the most controlling I've ever read. The H in Crime Lord's Captive is similiar. They're both very intense and focused on the h.
****************small spoiler************** An example of the psycho behavior from the H, in one of the books (my mind is going, lol) I think it was book 2 but if it happens in book 1 hopefully someone else will clarify, he drugs the h by injecting her with medication that makes her "go into heat". When she goes into heat, she's not herself and her hormones will overcome her brain and she'll willingly have sex with the H.

I am totally OK with the aphrodisiac. What does it say about me that I am ok with what is essentially rape but not cheating? Yikes. Only in fiction, of course. Brutal, forced rape with domination as the sole motivation is not something I can ever get past(with the exception of Golden Dynasty).
It's book 1 - he wants her to go in heat so she will become pregnant!
He doesn't give her the drug in book 1 though does he? I was thinking that due to her accidentally taking the drug (thinking it was a hormone repressor not accelerator) that he didn't.

I'm ok with it too, lol. I guess we have similar minds twisted minds, haha! It's good not to be alone.

I do too and I was ok with Golden Dynasty. I used to think that I don't really have a trigger and it's not a trigger per se but my biggest turn-off to any book is a H that is abusive & violent to the h. I hate that and it always bothers me. In Golden Dynasty, he was following the customs of his culture and thought he was honoring her. That way how they married their women and he didn't understand that to her it was rape and he wasn't cruel to her. Forced seduction, while morally wrong, I'm good with in a book because he at least he shows concern for her pleasure. When a H crosses the line to actually hurting the h, it doesn't sit well with me. I can kind of try to accept it within the parameters of a book but that book will never be a favorite or a reread for me and I'll never, ever 5 star a book like that even it's otherwise the most spectacular book ever. I can forgive a H pretty much anything if he's good to the h. I think this is why I was ok with everything that happened with Claire and Shepherd. He always seemed concerned about her - except in the cheating scene. (The idiot! lol)

I agree but the first part of Golden Dynasty was so hard for me to read. I felt so badly for the h and she did not want the intimacy. Because it was part of his culture and because of his amazing character growth and willingness to change some of his actions in consideration of the h's feelings, I was able to completely buy into his redemption and ultimately the HEA. I also loved the way KA handled the h's adjustment to the H's world and her having to accept that his life was brutal and not only did he have to be vicious and uncompromising in many situations but so did she. Technically speaking, KA is not a good writer but she is an excellent storyteller.
In regards to the Alpha's Claim books, I think I almost have to read them now just to sate my curiosity.... lol oh man, that cheating thing is going to bother me soooooo badly!

Hi ... yep, it's book 1 ... he gives her the drug and she becomes pregnant ... when she runs away from him at the end of book 1, she is already pregnant ..
