I am doing a re-read of the Mercy Thompson books for Jan 2018. It's been a few years since I did that, so I have a couple of new books to read at the end of the current set of books. I'll start reading the Alpha & Omega books when I'm done with the Mercy books.
I haven't read the graphic novels, just the regular prose novels.
Has no-one mentioned Anne Bishop's The Others? Love that series to bits. A litle dark in parts, but I love the concept of Wolves and Crows and other creatures taking human shape instead of the other way around like in most shapeshifter stories. These are were-humans of sorts and I love the litle "misunderstandings" when human logic meets other logic So happy she's starting a new series in that universe and counting down to march - I pre-ordered that book last summer! Also want to mention Debra Dunbar's Imp series for a rather different take on angels and demons - Sam is a bit of a anti-heroine (well, she IS a demon) but I still like her
"Susan hated Literature. She’d much prefer to read a good book." -Terry Pratchett, Soul Music

I got my son hooked on The Others series. I actually bought several copies of the first book in paperback and give them away to people. Hehehehehe - hook them in with a free book so I have more people who will talk about the series with me.

Devious! I like it

I have a question for all who have read the Mercy Thompson books. I have seen these up high on several lists but have never read them until recently. A lot of lists had Adam high up as an alpha hero. I am just starting book #3 Iron Kissed and I have yet to see any kind of alpha hero from him at all. IMO he barely even registers in any of the books so far. Samuel gets more air time than he does and I kept forgetting Adam was even there in the 2nd book. When does this change? I also started reading the Alpha and Omega books at the same time and am on #3 for that as well and I find it much better. There is no question who the hero is and how he feels about the heroine. I am just not getting that from the Mercy series. Three books in and I have no clue what Adam is thinking or why Mercy is special to him or if she even is. Does this relationship continue at this snail pace or does it advance quicker in later books? What am I missing?!
Hello fellow readers! You have already mentioned some of my favourite paranormal authors but I would like to add a few. (Even though I'm still not sure what's the difference between paranormal and urban fantasy so maybe some of this don't exactly fit here) Lately I discovered Isabel Jordan, her serie Harper Hall Investigations is very funny. (Vampires, psychic, shifters,...) If you like ghost stories I enjoy Alexie Aaron. Amy Sumida has a serie called The Godhunter (Reverse Harem) with different gods and deities; the main character, Vervain, is very funny. Also very funny at least for me is Darynda Jones and her Charley Davidson novels. There's more but those are the ones I can recall right now.

I haven't read these for some time, and haven't bought the 2 books? But, I love this series, and Alpha and Omega which is linked. I do recommend starting with book 1, as I love how their love grows. But I also get what you mean regarding the H. Adam adores Mercy, but has a lot of competing priorities and while Mercy is first in his heart, I don't think he can always put her first. However I sometimes think he reads her nature well, and knows that she is a strong independent person who makes her own decisions. He respects her, needs her and perhaps that impacts his decisions? He's also a lot older, and sometimes his thinking is outdated.

I did start from #1 with both which is why I am questioning why Adam rates so high on most alpha hero lists. He finally gets some screen time in #3 which I just finished but prior to that he was barely even there and I would have bet on Sam being the H if I hadn't heard otherwise. Even with the added time in #3, I am going to start 4 still with no idea what Adam really thinks or feels about much of anything. I am only continuing because I like the Alpha and Omega series and I am trying to see what tons of other people see in Adam as an alpha hero. However, I never did get all the love for Lord of Scoundrels and despite reading it 3 times cause I could never recall anything in it, I still barely remember anything in it. Maybe it is just me being too picky!

It takes the first 5 books before you really see the relationship between them blossom into what it is in the later books. Book 5 is super intense and you see the relationship start. Books 5 & 6 are the ones that show Adam's alpha-ness, in my opinion.

I just finished book 5 and you are totally right! I don't usually have patience to wait around for several books before getting to what I want to read about and I would have stopped at or before book 3. The Adam in book 5 does not resemble the Adam in earlier books at all. I tend to reread a lot and I would start with book 5 if I do reread this series.
