I have been following the riots quite closely on Twitter and have seen videos of whites breaking windows, I have also seen videos of black men protecting businesses from protestors, a video of a police officer separated from his group protected by a group of black men.
Glad you mentioned black people helping and yes these positive stories are on tv in the US at least on the news channel I watch. As for the celebrities I do not pay any attention to them but the news I watch listed about 10 people with portrait photos giving funds to bail out protesters arrested for violence. Maybe they thought the arrested people were peaceful protesters!
Unfortunately, I'm sure some of the people arrested were peaceful/innocent. One video was of a black woman trying to flag down the police to stop some men trying to break into a store. The police came and handcuffed her while the guilty people got in a vehicle and drove away. A TV crew (Fox I think) was filming while it all happened.
Be careful what you wish for, it might just come true.

The woman I saw (and later interviewed on tv) was a local news reporter where this scene took place who did not flag down police but was waving her arm trying to get the police attention and stopped them from assuming the men @the store were crooks and instead were the owners when the police approached them.
Instead of these people who are not losing their jobs wkg in the entertainment and politics (a top dog) giving funds to people arrested who need bail and I believe no one needs bail unless the police can prove there is a crime, they should help the store owners across the country that have lost their businesses.

I heard yesterday that most of the looters and thugs that have been arrested in New York will/have been released due to a New York law. As we watched TV last night I was amazed that even though the curfew in NY was 8:00 and I think the same in Washington DC the protesters and looters were still out and about at 11:00. If you draw a line in the sand you must back it up. Things did appear to be a bit more calm due to the heavy police/National Guard presence. I hope this continues.
I live in one of the boroughs of NYC. The NYPD are damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they try and stop people it's police brutality. If they do nothing, they aren't protecting the community. Mayor DiBlasio doesn't stand behind them 100%. What are they supposed to do? I'm sure many of you have seen the video of the NYPD police cruisers plowing through the crowd. While I don't agree with what they did, how were they supposed to react? The rioters were surrounding them, throwing things at the cars and were holding up a metal blockade so they couldn't pass. That's wrong. I know people are mad and they have every right to be. But it's not right to hurt the people that put their lives on the line every day to serve and protect. Because I'm sure those people couldn't handle being a cop. Heck, even some cops can't handle being cops and commit suicide.
I don't know what the solution is but they better come up with one soon. Because if Martial law is enacted, it'll be much worse.

I personally think the police have the right to protect themselves in whatever form is the quickest. Shame on DiBlasio for not backing his officers! He's probably watching the riots from home or in his office on a huge flat screen TV while the officers on the front line are being yelled at, threatened and injured. Perhaps he needs to get off his duff and go out to the front lines to see how it feels. From what I've seen on TV he and Cuomo seem to do more bickering that leading.
Josie, You live there so know much more than those of us watching on TV, do you think the National Guard should be called in to help the police?

I just heard, Chad Wolf head of homeland security said that they are investigating how and who are funding anarchists and antifa as to organizing and coming from out of state to incite riots besides now there has been an exceleration of bricks being stolen from construction sites and they are finding bricks and other items stored waiting for antifa to have on hand @night to do their damage.

Josie...I agree with everything you have expressed here.
BTW I LOVE NEW YORK...spent many a weekend since childhood going up from Baltimore by train. Have great memories except for the parachute jump @coney Island. LOL

I agree. If an officer is being attacked by someone they should protect themselves as they see fit. A few years ago at a NYPD officers funeral, all the cops turned their backs when Mayor Di Blasio showed up. They really don't like him. Although they are both Democrats, the governor and mayor rarely see eye to eye. The mayor got mad yesterday when the governor said the NYPD weren't doing their job. Di Blasio said that Cuomo owed them an apology. He did later apologize, but I can see his point. If the mayor isn't deploying enough officers, the few that are there can't do their job safely.
BB, that's a hard question to answer. The rioting isn't happening where I am. Most of the rioting and looting is happening in Manhattan and Brooklyn and not all over the boroughs. But I don't think the National Guard being called will help. It may make it worse. Some people just will not listen to authority.
Our local ABC affiliate has been running stories about good things folks are doing; some days, I almost get bored with it but then I see footage of all the bad things & I'm grateful again for the reminder that some people are doing good! I did laugh the other night watching Guy Fieri & Bill Murry in a competition making nachos as a fundraiser for restaurant workers. Throw social distancing in & the judges couldn't taste the nachos--winner was based on the descriptions! And with Murray in there? Major hoot!
Great news-DOW over 27,000, 2.9 million jobs added in May...economic advisors surprised as to recovery starting now and didn't expect until August or thereafter. Cuomo said 35,000 construction sites in his state back to work this Monday. Unemployment rate coming down.

I never thought I would see the Dow bounce back so fast during all the changes that have happened to our country in the last 3 months. I hope it is a good sign and that the small businesses can somehow get help and start opening.
My nephew became engaged last month and doing a lot of travel (before Covid) since he lives in California and she lives in Alabama. Also my brother a widower met a woman before covid and they have kept in touch and with openings in California they just met in person. My brother does not show emotion in his voice but on the phone yesterday with talking about her to me his voice actually sounded happy!
These will be 2nd marriages for both father & son (my brother to old to waste anytime..lol).
