Karen, Tell Me No Lies by Elizabeth Lowell is definitely one of my favorites. Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson and Bloom County by Berkeley Breathed left me down in the dumps for a good long while when they retired. Mention of Reader’s Digest, and their jokes immediately come to mind. It’s been years since I’ve seen one at town but just checked and they are still around.
Shield’s Lady by Amanda Glass/JAK was a reissued Library book and I think my first Futuristic - SciFi romance, too. It’s the humor regarding those birds in Beau Crusoe by Carla Kelly that made me laugh out loud and put it in my favorites. And yes, you’re right on the SPOILER, only other time I remember it coming up is in one of the Sebastian St. Cyr books by C.S. Harris and those are HM with only a trace of Romance.
mjbetts , thanks for the link. The term anti-library doesn’t appeal to me at all, so negative. I’m pro-library all the way, public and personal. Most of my books I have because I intended to read them when I got them home, still have hopes. Then, there are some that are old and out-of-print and unknown authors that had a story they wanted to share. If they weren’t here with me the odds are good they would be destroyed. If I don’t get to them they are at least preserved for awhile longer for someone else to enjoy, I hope. I wish I was a faster reader.
KC, we always watched the Wizard of Oz, too. It never got old but I’ve not seen it in years. I think I have all of Kathleen Woodiwiss’ books but have only read Shanna. One of my aunts came to romance late and that was one of her favorites. Her eyes lit up when I told her I’d liked it, too. I sent her home with a duplicate copy of One Summer by Karen Robards, another favorite.
tealadytoo, Zero Day by David Baldacci is a 5 Star for me, too. Agatha Christie, Ellery Queen, Helen MacInnes... more favorites. Another of my aunts was so inspired by the Mitford series by Jan Karon that she started writing her own stories.
Janice, Sandra Brown was one of my first romance finds, Hawk O’Toole’s Hostage was a library book that sent me looking for her backlist. It was years before I found out she had numerous other author names. Still look forward to her book every year. Judith Duncan was a favorites, too, was sorry when she disappeared.
Seeing these Harlequin - Silhouette - Loveswept authors reminds me Dallas Schulz and Marilyn Pappano are still on my Keeper list. Mostly it was the Silhouette Intimate Moments (SIM) line that kept me happy for many years. I was sorry when Harlequin put everything under their Harlequin umbrella.
linviolet, In Cold Blood by Truman Capote had me jumping out of my skin at every little sound while on a babysitting job. I was on hyper alert that night.
