bb, Elizabeth Lowell, JAK in all her nom de plumes.
Me too! I always buy the paper version (usually hardback) version of JD Robb/Nora Roberts books and them get the e version when and if they go on sale. Sadly Elizabeth Lowell hasn't released a new book in ages! She's another that I have paper versions of. JAK I've been a bit slow on. I'm still on the fence in regards to her newest Amanda Quick, When She Dreams. I haven't decided if I want to spend the $14.99 or $18.79. I may wait for the pb version which will be a bit cheaper. Has anyone read it yet and if so what did you think?

It was time to dig into my Jayne Fresina collection and picked The Trouble with His Lordship's Trousers and had a lot of good laughs, gosh she has a lovely way with words. As always with this authors books you need to accept that they are not realistic for that time period but for some fun escapism they are great reads. A slow burn romance between two lovely characters. My only gripe for this book was how the hero's mental health issues seemed to be resolved very quickly and easily at the end. A solid 4/5 for me and a book I will be happy to reread.
Not as happy with the latest by Ali Hazelwood Under One Roof. A good novella is hard to find and this one was lacking in plot. Not much really happened, just a lot of awkward conversations between the h and H who become room mates after she inherits the other half of the house he owns. The dialogue was hard to follow at times, lots of spaces between the words and an overuse of "...." in just about every line of conversation. It was irritating. Not sure about reading the other 2 novellas. A 2.5/5 for me.

bluebear , it looks like I need to schedule a reread of the Fresina book. I have forgotten a lot of it, it seems. Currently I'm reading a traditional Regency romance by a new author for me, Vanessa Gray, The Duke's Messenger. The book deserves a better cover, IMO. I'm about halfway through and enjoying it a lot. The heroine, Nell, is a spunky, go-getter kind of person, but very kind, and the hero is a worthy match for Nell. It's a road trip story at the moment so I'm just going along for the ride to see how we get our HEA.

bluebear I think Ali Hazelwood's novellas are based on her old fanfics. And as much as I love fanfiction some just don't make good books or novellas. I know her book was a Star Wars fanfic was revised, and somethings added and taken out to make it into the book many love today. I purchased it, but I have not read it, and now it's everywhere in a lot of peoples recommendations.
I started a T.L Swan book which I am not going to continue, Mr. Garcia, I read the first 2 in that series a while back and thought I could push through this, I cannot. I dislike the hero, but I really dislike the heroine. And I just can't go on.
I am thinking of getting the new Chloe Liese it looks like an M/M romance, sports, slow burn enemies to lovers.
I finally have all the Historical Kat Martin books that I have been ordering the past few weeks. From my orders I started to read Sweet Vengeance. It's book 2 in her Lord's Trilogy. I really liked the first book in the series, Gypsy Lord. Hopefully book 2 is good as well.
bonnieg I have you to thank for starting me on my love of Jayne Fresina, her humour appeals to me. Looking forward to book 2 in the series.
linviolet Interesting info, might explain why the book wasn't to my liking. It definitely wasn't up to the standard of The Love Hypothesis. Lots of others seem to be liking the novella so it might just be an age thing ie I am too old!

Could also be the couples themselves aren't hitting that chemistry meter. Plus maybe fans of the fanfics might be reviewing it and they have a stronger and deeper connection to the story and characters. I do not know who they are meant to be or which fandom they are from, or if they are crossovers, but I am the type of fan who goes for enemies as couples for nearly all of what I watch and read, these are promoted as such so I might like it. I'll put in in my cart and see how I feel about it in a few days.

The dukes messenger sounds interesting, I have purchased and will start reading . Thank you for the tips!
First time reading Annabelle Anders, her book Lady Saves the Duke was on my wish list for a while. A marriage of convenience story, something I usually love but in this one I found the hero to be a bit of an idiot and some of his inner musings left a bad taste in my mouth. The heroine is a very bubbly person from an impoverished family, she was raped in her first season, scandal ensued and she has lived away from society at home in small village. Compromised by the Duke and facing total ruin the Duke decides to propose. I gave up at 50% as neither character was too my liking and skipped to the end.
Also finished The Widow of Rose House by Diana Biller. Sweet read featuring an eccentric (a little overdone) professor, a widowed woman who escaped from an abusive relationship and an interesting ghost story. Solid read, a 3.5/5.
More to my liking was listening to book 5 from the Lady Sherlock Series by Sherry Thomas, Murder on Cold Street . Excellent addition to the series, 4.5/5. Great fun.

I get AQ/JAK books from the library nowadays. That's a good idea to wait for the pb version. I still find comfort in her books but I didn't feel like there was as much romance. The h has lucid dreams but I think she only experienced them once (maybe twice?) in the book. I didn't really like the h which is unusual for AQ books but did like the H.

I actually had some digital credit so was able to purchase the Kindle version for 7.99. Not a bad deal. I haven't read it yet as it's sitting on Mt TBR. I don't purchase her new books in hardback anymore as they're only 315 or so pages. Too much money for the number of pages for me.

I did go ahead & buy it but I also got a sale price & digital credit so it was actually cheaper than pbks are running these days as I keep seeing them at 8.99 or 9.99! Everything's going up---and oh for the days when I bought my first Andre Norton pbk (WITCH WORLD) at .45. Yeah, that was a very long time ago, a bit over 50 years ago...deep sigh... Don't know if I'll read the new AQ soon...
I just finished an AQ reread binge: the Vanza series. I finished Wicked Widow (Vanza #3) last night & opened Lie By Midnight (Vanza #4 about 4 this morning) I have to admit, I got rather annoyed at the heroines in both of them: constantly arguing with the H, not respecting that he knows what he's doing, etc. Usually I like AQ's heroines just fine, but this may be why it was a long time before I reread the Vanza series... Ah well, now, what to read next... Treachery in Death being on sale made me want to reread it, but darn it, I've already got 2 In Death titles in reread mode...Creation ID (almost finished but it's in the car for reading) and Secrets ID (started the pbk & will take it to the car to replace Creation). Oh yeah, the new Jennifer Ashley Shifter's Unbound is out there: Tiger's Daughter Maybe that one...
I just finished reading Sherry Thomas' Murder on Cold Street which I enjoyed. You'd better put on your thinking cap, though, because it's a fairly complicated story, IMO. I don't know what you thought, bluebear, but I liked the characters and the developing romance between Charlotte and Ash, but I felt like I needed to take notes to keep everything straight. I haven't read book 3 or 4 so maybe that was the problem. Now I'm looking for a good reread.
I just finished reading The Marquess Makes His Move by Diana Quincy. It was ok. Nothing too exciting. It was a simple plot with average characters. I'm just glad that I got it from the library. I seem to be doing that a lot lately. It used to be that I would buy everything but then, sometimes, I wasted money on something I didn't like. I hate to return a book. Now I've learned to embrace the library, for the most part. After all, I spent the last month or so buying a ton of Kat martin books after only reading one I got from paperbackswap. Luckily, they have been hits for me.
bonnieg Oh no! I think it would have helped to read these in order, book 3 especially, it was also a more complicated plot but a great story with the focus on Ash. I thought bk 4 was a bit meh plotwise, it had a stronger focus on Livia which I didnt mind. Once listened they become my night time relistens as I am dozing off. I hope you manage to get and read the earlier books.
Now I've learned to embrace the library, for the most part.
Me too! I just wish our library had a better selection (I only use online) but I certainly take advantage of anything I can, there have been a few borrows which I gave up on and am grateful I didn't waste my miserly budget on them.
