kareni , I think I can loan you Pets in Space 5, since it shows up as being lendable. I know that Pets in Space 2 discounted before it became unavailable, but I don’t believe that any of the later volumes did. I intended to purchase volume 3, whether or not it dropped in price, but I was busy with work at the time, and missed the January last sale date. Once these volumes are no longer on sale for kindle, they’re no longer lendable. The current volume has Reaper(Xian Warriors 7) if you’re a fan of that series by Regine Abel.
What a kind offer, ariane; thank you! I'd be delighted to borrow the book.
I don't believe I've read anything by Regine Abel. I take it that you like her work?
Hope this works. I used the loan feature to send you a message. I liked Regine Abel’s story in this collection, but I think it has more impact if you have some more information about the background for this series, which she first wrote about in Pets in Space 4. I think I can quote the post where this volume was referenced in the free forum.
Limited time release collection that just dropped from $0.99 to free. Some of the stories listed are either currently free, were recently free or are currently in free collections(e.g., Born to Be Bound, Fight Me, Daddy, Sir Loin of Beef, etc.) But what makes this worth getting is its inclusion of Doom (Xian Warriors Book 1) by Regine Abel. This is expanded from the novella version that appeared in Pets in Space 4, and would separately cost $3.99

Just finished Nalini Singh's Alpha Night, which had been sitting in my TBR pile since it came out last year! I enjoyed it - more than some of the other Trinity installments - but I have to say that mostly I'm just super duper hoping there's going to be a book for Nikita Duncan. I totally wiffed on this series when the first books were coming out and basically inhaled the whole series a few years ago, so maybe I'm missing critical fandom info, but man, I've been hoping for a Nikita Duncan and Anthony Kyriakus pairing since... like... forever it feels like, and the build up on psynet viruses in this book makes it seem like she might get a bigger role somewhere down the line in the series (I hope!)
Otherwise, I think I'm now reading this series more for the world-building than for the romances themselves.
DSarah, I've hoped for a book with Anthony and Nikita as well. Fingers crossed.
All week I was reading Whiteout by Adriana Anders it took me so long to finish. It's because I wasn't in the mood for a survival book, but it is a book that has the close proximity trope, a one bed (sleeping bag), grumpy hero with a past that has him hiding his feelings, a heroine who has curves and is the sunshine to his gray skies. It's a solid 4 star book.
It is a good book, I didn't love it but I think it was my mood and mind just weren't too interested in the topic. I am waiting for the 2nd book since the character made an impression one me in the first book.
Now I am like 20% into Rule by Jay Crownover and I am enjoying it.
Enjoyed reading Look the Part by Jewel E Ann, a good solid read dealing with some tough topics, a bit sad at times but felt realistic. A 4/5 for me. Will definitely read more by this author.
Also finished reading Broken Miles (bk1) by Claire Kinglsey which I nearly gave up on several times. A second chance romance, Hero returns to family winery to help save it and reunites with his ex wife who works at the winery. I usually enjoy this authors books a lot more than I did this one so I will probably try the next in the series. A 2.5/5 for me.
I'm visiting Pern again: Skies of Pern (#16 of 25) by Anne McCaffrey I've also dipped into The White Dragon (Dragonriders of Pern #3). One problem with the ebk version of Skies of Pern; the end papers on the print copies have maps of Pern but those didn't make it into the ebk. When the Comet hits the Eastern Sea triggering tsunamis; they're talking about the locations that need to be warned, moved, etc & I really wanted a map. I had to stop & pull one up online (lots copied there--but not great!) I should have gone & pulled my copy of The Atlas of Pern by Karen Wynn Fonstad but I was being lazy...and it's not available in ebk format.

kc, you’re reading on a tablet, since you want images of covers, etc. right? So to access maps of Pern, use your web connection to access The Atlas of Pern | Pern Wiki | Fandom and navigate down through the map listing to select jpeg images of the maps you want to view.

I am, too! I started a couple of days ago and am now on White Dragon. When I finish it, I'm going to read Moreta and then Nerilka's Story. I'll swing back to the Skies of Pern, All The Wyrs of Pern, amd The Dolphins of Pern.
I love Moreta's Ride & Nerilka's Story! I realized I've never read the stories set in the past (Landing, First Fall, etc) and think I'll need to as I want to know Honshu Hold's history! Thanks for the suggestion for accessing Atlas of Pern on the Kindle, Ariane, but as I was reading yesterday & today, I went into my other Kindle (which does online much better than my 1st one) and pulled up a map that showed what I wanted & just kept it there so I could turn on that Kindle & look if I had a question. Weird, there were maps in there for 11th Pass; but the stories we know & love were in the 9th Pass & since there were to be no more Falls after the 9th; how could they figure an 11th Pass? I figure it's fan art & someone has developed some fan literature showing how the planet went on & hypothesizing that it would be 11th Pass if... I don't think Anne or her kids wrote or have written any in the current Pass after Skies... I think Todd's & Gigi's have been in the eras between Landing & 9th Pass...and honestly, seem to repeat a lot. But what can they do when fans keep demanding more Pern!
Have you read any of her others? I didn't care for the Damia series but loved her first book (Restoree) which they say she wrote wanting a different look at women in science fiction in those days. And I believe it! I also loved the Crystal Singer series altho' that romance is more of a HFN because of the nature of singing crystal and the Catteni Sequence, also called the Freedom Series I loved Zainal and that he survived as a member of the attacking race but marooned there like the humans. I need to do some more rereading!!!
I am reading The Choice of a Cavalier by Linda Rae Sande. This is book 3 in her series "The Heirs of the Aristocracy," and like the others in the series, includes two romances. I'm enjoying it. I did finished the next book in Lynn Messina's historical mystery series-sorry I keep bringing them up-A Nefarious Engagement. The h has an aunt who seems a bit over-the-top at times, and there's a lot of internal discussion going on with the h. Also, you don't get any info from the H's point of view except through his actions and words. But I like this bright heroine and her romantic duke, and it makes me laugh.
Enjoyed rereading The Baron's Betrothal by Miranda Davis, a slow read as I wanted to savor every word of it. Unsure on what to start next, dithering between another historical romance or some SF.
Onto the third book of the Linesman trilogy, Confluence by S K Dunstall and this looks like it has more political intrigues than the previous books and am curious on how this will all end. Am hoping for some romance between some of the characters, fingers crossed.
I finished Jayne Davis' An Embroidered Spoon, an enjoyable story about a daughter of a baron who is determined to marry for love. Having turned down many suitors, Izzy is sent to Wales as a punishment, where she meets Rhys, a man in trade. It's a clean read with likable characters and little angst. I also enjoyed learning a bit about Wales. Earlier, I had read Davis' The Mrs. MacKinnons which I liked a lot so I thought I'd give another of her books a try.
