I keep finding interesting things to post. So that I don't clutter other threads I'll create this one. If you come across some interesting tidbits or bits of information you feel you'd like to share please do so.
@ npacheco This is an interesting tidbit. Call me crazy, but, to me, some of the modern folk look a bit like their ancestors.
The further we are from our ancestors the more we tend to look like them. My brother is the one who can explain the factors since he likes reading about genealogy and genetics, but I remember a time when he had a few articles about how it was that we were more likely to look like our great grand parent than we were our own parents, it's not always true but because of the genetic markers being passed down at some point someone has to look like Uncle Bert or Granny Edna, lol.
If I looked like either one of my great grand mothers when they were young, boy what two beautiful women. I'm the mix of my parents, and funnily enough older brother looks like dad and younger brother is the male version of my mom, lol! My husband though is a near mirror image of his great great grandfather.
okay, so that early TNG episode where they found the 3 people who had been frozen after death & put into space, wandered quite a ways out...it was on the other day; Deanna helped the woman find her many times great grandson & brought a picture up on the monitor; the gal's going on about he's the spitting image of Donald (her husband) & I'm thinking "yeah, right. All those years & he looks just like him?", I was wrong? It is possible for someone to look like a many times great granddad? Interesting!
kc not impossible, I mean not identical but close enough to tell they are from the same family or closely related. As I said my husband looks like his great great grandpa, but there are quite a few things that are definitely different. There are many things are passed down in our genetics, some are lucky and others not so much. I enjoy television series who give me that laugh, the great(6x) grand son looks exactly like the great(6x) grandpa. As my nephew loves to point out, 'it's the same actor' lol!
Banana Boat Before I read Lyme park I was like, Hey Darcy's home! LOL! The many times I've watched Pride and Prejudice. I don't imagine myself living in any of these, but if I had to pick one Longleat because of all the outside space and I could hide anywhere inside with a few snacks and great book and no one would bug me or find me until I wanted them to, lol!

I think I'd pick Blenheim Palace for the fact that it was the birthplace of Winston Churchill. His mother was an American, Jennie Jerome. I'm sure her dowry was use to maintain the big drafty place. The 1995 P&P is my most favorite of all the P&Ps. I'd love to see Lyme Park!
Eleanor Roosevelt is one of my favorites. She pretty much ran the country, and her strength and courage as she stepped out into the public when other ladies had been in the background not taking attention away from their spouse who was the one expected to be in the spotlight since he was the president.

I bought this The Roosevelts: An Intimate History by Geoffrey C. Ward, Ken Burns a few years ago (hardback) used on Amazon. It would be considered a coffee table book and is full of great photographs and history. I just love books with old photos. I'd never heard of Geoffrey Ward but Ken Burns does excellent work. Like you, I greatly admire Eleanor Roosevelt. Again, the photos are wonderful.

Banana Boat thanks for the link. Looks like something I would be interested in. Like you I enjoy the photographs of the past, the stories behind the photo and of course the history as a whole is always pleasant to learn about as well.
If you like old photos, have you ever browsed the Library of Congress digital collections? I can easily get lost down the rabbit hole on there. Library of Congress

Not since University, I think I blocked this out of my head due to my hatred of one of the professor. He was a horrible person. Someone tired and bored of teaching, and nitpicking at everything and anything. He gave me a C in the class, I had to have the board look at my final project and that brought it up to a B. I wouldn't have had to go to the top if he hadn't already written on the first draft, 'Not worth my time.'
