I will admit that I have been in a months long book slump. Nothing holds my attention for very long in romance so I have been reading other things. I'm still looking for a good romance though! I read The Takeover yesterday. I would give this a conditional 2.5 star rating, my conditional part being if the h had been left out of the book entirely, I would have given it an easy 4-5 star rating. The relationships the H has with the h three sons was so much fun to read that I just wanted to keep reading about the 4 of them. Any time the h entered the picture I was having to make an effort not to switch to a different book. She is an annoying, irritating, horrible mother and girlfriend. She was so hung up on her dead husband that I was cheering when the H finally had enough of being "tolerated" cause he was good in bed but otherwise she made him feel second best in every possible way (she actually tells him that in a cringe inducing, painfully selfish and nasty way) and he finally left her. I mean he did say he wanted to buy them a new bigger house and eventually adopt the kids when they got married so I can see why she freaked on him and said he would never be good enough.
My hope was the kids and the H could go off together and all leave her cause she was terrible. She either didn't notice or blamed her kids on them having problems in school, it almost became a DNF when she actually went to her oldest son's work (he works for the H's company) cause the H yelled at him and she proceeded to made a scene in public thereby guaranteeing her son will never have a date with anyone he works with ever and incidentally if she weren't screwing the boss, her son would have been fired asap, and then again it nearly got put down when she declared that the 18 year old son is not allowed to date because he is too young. Her adult son is too young to date. She is a future mother in law from hell. Honestly the son did come across as maybe 15 but only because she treated him that way. Having the two younger sons, (preteen and younger) run away and follow the H to Paris when he leaves somehow making it by airport security, etc. was stupidly unreal but I was cheering them on. I was left with the impression that she only asked the H back because all her kids would have left her if she didn't and she knew it.
