I've read a couple of regency era books recently that give distances in kilometers and monetary values in pounds and pence. Britain did not convert to the decimal system until 1971, before that distance was measured in miles and monetary value was in pounds, shillings and pence. Twelve pennies in a shilling, twenty shillings in a pound (base of 240).
There are also guineas, which were a pound and a shilling (£1.05). If you bought something like a horse through a dealer the buyer would for example pay 50 guineas, the seller would get 50 pounds and the dealer 50 shillings, which was 5% commission. The good thing about "old money" was that a lot of calculations like that were automatic.
