Kingscastle: A classic Regency romance in the tradition of Georgette Heyer by Sophia Holloway

I don’t normally write book reviews but a warning if anyone is interesting in getting this book. It caught my attention as it was described as written in the style of Georgette Heyer (can’t say that I found it to be anything like her standard of writing!). It had some witty moments but her sentence structure was very odd and even rereading didn’t help, at times chunks made no sense to me. She does like to use her commas, there was an overabundance of them but then when you use such long sentences they are needed. Because she is trying too hard to write in a style that doesn’t come naturally the storyline feels a bit neglected, it is dull. I didn’t feel any warmth towards the hero and I gave up at about 30% after we meet the mother of the man who was supposed to inherit the title, she was just too nasty. I knew I could not read any further as her machinations would only add to my frustrations. It is a clean read.


Book is currently on sale, but suggest you read the sample before purchasing. It may appeal to others but this author is not for me. I have a feeling I have read one of her books before and had the same issues, nothing in my library so think it was via KU.
