Matchmakers. The hero obtains a cat from heroine for his aunt. A low-key novella love story w/ kisses only (though his mind wanders about her tiny self.)
Father Christmas by B. Metzger. The young twin boys were funny. Their widowed Mom fell for the arrogant hero, her former BIL. (Not a new book).
Thanks for the rec mlover . Will check out the reviews, am generally not a fan of H/h getting on with a former partner’s sibling though.
Not to mention it was illegal from the mid 1500 to the early 1900's. Not sure when this story took place but the clothing on the cover looks earlier than 1907.
Not enough degrees of separation, according to the church. The forbidden marriages list was very long. Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law were way up there.
Someone mentioned this on Ammy. I recall it was a law. But I don't quite understand the law if they had no mother or father or grandmother or grandfather blood relative in common. ML.

It had to do with Canon law within the church. Once a man married a woman, he was considered related by affinity to all her blood relatives. Because of this, the church considered that a man marrying his sister in law was equivalent to marrying his own sister. The reverse was also true. (A widow could not marry her brother in law). There is a whole list of people that cannot marry due to an affinity relationship. It has to do with something in the 9th verse of Leviticus according to some sources I've found.
This law came into affect around 1560 and wasn't revoked until 1907.
Grace Burrowes uses this as a major plot point in Douglas, one of the Lonely Lords series.
The late Jo Beverley posted "Prohibited Degrees of Marriage" on her web site. The Ecclesiastical law, per Jo, dated back to 1563, with the definition of who a man couldn't marry, ditto for a woman. The Ecclesiatical law of 1848 updated/ expanded the definitions
Jo said, as per church law, if a man had sex with one woman, he couldn't legally marry her sister. This is not my area of expertise, I'm just summarizing Jo's words. ML.

I spent wounderful hours this weekend with this book: Sarah M. Eden "Drops of Gold" It was, in my eyes, sweet and funny with a bit of drama. After a long time it was the first HR which captured me again. It seems to be one of a serie about seven brothers, I read none of the other books yet. Just to mention it: some kisses, nothing more.

Hi Viennalady-
Sometimes a romance only needs kisses. Thanks for the rec. ML.
