What are your favorite historicals? Is the H non-pc? (Non-politically correct) I prefer the meaner, non-pc H's for some reason. I'm weird, I know. I cut my teeth on bodice rippers - lol. One of my Man of My Dreams
What's your favorite?

I prefer older historicals from the 70s, 80s and 90s because they put me through an emotional roller-coaster. The hero is not politically correct but with qualifications. He cannot be so mean that I doubt his love for the heroine. I don't like romances featuring multiple partners.
Favorite? There are so many, but if I have to choose it would be The Warlord by Elizabeth Elliott.
It was the hair brushing that did it.

I don't read many historicals, but have read than usual in the last few months. I think my favorite is still Annie's Song by Catherine Anderson. I kept hearing about it and finally ordered the paperback last year along with a couple of other books that are not available in ebook.

Stephanie Laurens wrote two of my very favorite historicals (Devil's Bride and Mastered by Love) but she is not my favorite historical author. Elizabeth Hoyt is my favorite author. I love all her books. Wicked Intentions and Duke of Sin are probably my top two by her.
My favorite trope is where the H sees the h and says to himself - that's the one, that's the woman I'm going to marry. Then he sets about trying to convince her, by any means necessary. This works in historical romance (and paranormal) but it's just plain creepy in most contemporary.
I'm a re-reader. I'll read some books again and again if I like them enough. But they have to be REALLY good to make the cut. Others I'll reread just because I'm going through a series and want to read them in order. They still have to be pretty good.

I've read some of Elizabeth Hoyt's books and they are good.

Lol! It works for me everywhere. 😉
I just realized that one of my all time favorite books is a contemporary with just that trope. So I guess it can work for me in all genres too! Who knew?
I am a fan of Pamela Morsi's historicals, and her heroes and heroines. They are not always super rich, just ordinary people who find love with the unexpected partner. They are unconventional but as a reader you can relate. Garters by Pamela Morsi
Garters was a book where I started disliking Esme the h, she's less un-likable near the end, because of her behavior towards Cleavis ,the H, but as the book progressed I found myself loving every bit of the book.

OMG! Man of My Dreams (Sherring Cross) is my absolute fave too! I've re-read this book too many times to count! When I get bored, this is what I read. I super duper love this book! Same here, I've started reading my reading journey with old school non-pc historicals.. ultimate bodice rippers!
My other fave historicals:
2. Prisoner of My Desire - Johanna Lindsey (this is mean haha!) 3. Devil in Winter 4. The Wedding - Julie Garwood 5. The Heiress - Jude Deveraux
Runner Ups 1. Viking Saga Trilogy - Johanna Lindsey 2. Medieval Trilogy - Elizabeth Lowell 3. All of Julie Garwoods historicals 4. It Happened One Autumn - Lisa Kleypas 5. Love Only Once - Johanna Lindsey 6. All of Johanna Lindsey's medieval romance
I used to love Judith McNaught but now I know better.. LOL my fave of hers is Once and Always but H is a cheater and Almost Heaven but the story is stupid
Also, @samantha_k I really do recommend to read ALL of Julie Garwood's historicals (except the For the Roses).. The books are just so freaking romantic!
secretromancejunkie Wildest Hearts by JAK is one of my top 4 books by her too.. and prolly one of the top 10 contemp books
I'm finding it harder, and harder to find good historicals lately. I prowl the used book stores to find my heroines who aren't shrews.
I re-read these regularly, or just my favourite parts when I'm bored:
The Heartbreaker - Nicole Jordan The Marriage Bed- Stephanie Mittman The Accidental Bride - Jane Feather Ravishing The Heiress - Sherry Thomas The Black Lyon- Jude Deveraux Dreaming of You- Lisa Kleypas The Spinster Bride- Jane Goodger Lord of Scoundrels- Loretta Chase The Perfect Wife - Jane Goodger The Magic of You- Joanna Lindsey
