LOL-not sure if I'm best suited to start this thread since I'm the one that probably needs a lot of help dnldg ePubs, Mobi and PDF to my iPad and Kindle Fire. And now to bookmark what I've started...help!!!!
Those who have responded in the "shoutbox" it would be great to have your instructions here. Thanks.
I have an older kindle fire tablet that I don't use anymore but IIRC all my personal docs that were on the sd card or internal storage were in the documents tab.
You would only be able to convert if it was DRM free epub. If it's not, it won't convert and you will have to read it on your KOBO device or an Adobe registered app or program.
ok, I have an ipad and I tried downloading books to it directly from my computer by USB. It said I had to create a folder and move it there and then to my kindle application. I have no friggin clue what they are talking about. I never had to create a folder. I just thought it was as simple as opening amazon, clicking the books directly to it by usb and it would be done. nope, I have to open up my kindle app, after I connected to my wireless modum and download. it would be great if it was one or two books, even 5 would be fine, but no being on this site and going to the freebie section is killing me. I see so many great books and I one-click and now every time I open the app to download since it is waiting to download so many it crashes and closes the app. I need help to figure how to download using my usb from my computer directly because it is directly to the internet. Can someone tell me how to do this that is idiot proof please.

I also would love to know what to do. I started this thread with no tech knowledge! lol Maybe a shout out request for everyone to look at this thread?
Here comes the sun even though I love that rainy day feeling!
While I think I know what needs to be done, I do not use Apple products and have never even looked at an iPad. I'm going to let someone who has more experience with them help so I don't tell you something that works on Android but crashes yours.

citkat #1 I'm just assuming an iPad would operate the same way as an iPhone. This may be incorrect.
However, on my iPhone, this is what I do:
1) open the Kindle App 2) click on Cloud (rather than Device) 3) search for (or click on) the book I want 4) wait for it to downlowad 5) click again to read it

I forgot to say, there should also be a sync somewhere. Most of the time it syncs automatically, but sometimes I have to manually sync it. This brings the current location in the current book into sync across all devices.
Ok Apple user.. I usually break my kindle buys on Calibre, Personally I like reading on my iPad, but when I am forced to read on my kindle (usually at the beach or a pool) I will download my books there. So if you buy your books on Kobo or Smashwords if you have the choice to download either Epub (which is iPad compatible) or Mobi (which is Kindle compatible) You can either down load both , sometimes they will only let you do one or the other, So what I do is change the book format using calibre or zamzar.com. this is also another site that changes formats for you for free. very user friendly. Then download the book to your computer.
So you have a book in mobi file and you want to put it in your kindle.
1. hook your kindle to up to your computer.
2. when you see your kindle come up in your DEVICE listing click on it.
3. you then will see 2 folder pages..DOCUMENTS and VOICE
4. Double Click on the DOCUMENTS folder. this will open all you books to file page for you.
5. now all you have to do is either from your shortcuts down on the bottom of your computer pick your book/ file and drag it to the open DOCUMENT folder on your kindle. Your book as been saved to it now. Another way to do it is to open up your Finder and find your book downloads and drag it over to your DOCUMENT folder, doing it this was will let you do multiple books at the same time.
6. When you are done just hit the eject button in finder and your books are saved on you kindle.
After doing this the first or second time it is super easy.
I hope this helped.

Ok, I will try doing that. Thank you everyone for your help with this. I am not a great computer person and trying to download my books to my ipad kindle app using wireless internet took to long and kept shutting down so it was useless.
