I've been in a book slump the last few weeks. Any suggestions? I like most themes except romantic suspense. I like the conflict to be internal, not external.
A few that I have enjoyed in recent months, meaning I rated them 4 or 5 stars:
Fighting Dirty by Lori Foster Hurt You by Abby McCarthy Falling by E.K. Blair Safeword: Matte by Candice Blevins (BDSM) This Time Is Different by Mae Wood (mature characters) The Best Laid Plans by Lauren Gallagher (m/m/f - one of my best books of the year, but only if you are into bisexual menage)
I read a lot of romsus, but IIRC those I have listed are not suspense. I can offer more BDSM and m/m recs, but I'm not sure if you read those. Let me know if you do and i'll post more.
I just read a four-book collection by Lori Foster that had stories of four Buckhorn County characters (Shohn, Garrett, Gray, and Adam). I really enjoyed them: Buckhorn Brothers Vol. 2. I liked visiting Buckhorn County again, and love that the Buckhorn heroes are alpha/protective but at the same time have a sweetness to them in how they show their heroines that they care.
kareni - I'm open to a lot (historical, contemporary, paranormal, bdsm, menage, biker, mafia.) What I'm not a big fan of is romantic suspense/mystery romances. The angstier the better!!!
Have you read Anne Bishop's The Others (paranormal)? Lyn Gala's male/male alien romance series that starts with Claimings, Tails and Other Alien Artifacts (BD but not SM)?
I always think of that one when someone mentions that they like angsty books. There is some suspense involved, but it's primarily an excuse to drive their incredibly convoluted relationship. :=) Have plenty of Kleenex handy.

You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me.

Miss Lockharte's Letters by Barb Metzger (HR) A penmanship teacher thinks she's dying of influenza & writes several people critical letters. Once the letters are received, these folks travel to see her. But she did not die. There was wit and sadness in this story. And a stubborn hero who learned to bend a bit. Also was someone intending to kill the h?
A Simple Case of Seduction by Adele Clee (HR). A male and a female enquiry agent (like private eyes) work cases together. He thinks this is an unsafe job for her. Someone is stalking her? This couple spent so much time together. The sexual tension & the sex were great. I would not classify it as suspenseful b/c of the amt of time devoted to the couple. In my experience a suspense story has v little romance.

Here's a couple of recommendations where the conflict is mostly internal. There may be a few pages of someone being in danger, but not much. Both are historical romance.
Love in the Afternoon - Lisa Kleypas - H has ptsd from the crimea war, bit of a slow burn to start, they begin by writing letters. I still have about 60 pages to but it's kept me enthralled so far.

You should try Shannon McKenna's books. Her older series (The McCloud Brothers) and her newer series (The Obsidian Files). Not only is the suspense riveting, but the romance never takes a back seat. The story is about the couple. Her books are smokin' hot romance told through amazingly suspenseful and complex stories.
