I was just curious at how much you have spent or how much you are willing to spend on a used book. I prefer hardcover books and, if a book I like comes in it, I'll see if I can find one. Especially if it's part of a series. The most I have spent on a used hardcover book is $125. It was A Rogue's Proposal by Stephanie Laurens. I know that sounds crazy. But, this was more than 10 years ago and, at that point, I'd already been looking a few years for it. It was literally the only copy available. So I got it. Of course, now, there are a lot of copies and you can get it for a few bucks. With the exception of Scandal's Bride, I have all the Bar Cynster books in hardcover. For some reason it was never released in hc. I had thought maybe I missed it. I even asked Stephanie Laurens if it ever did but she said no. I have Devil's Bride and A Rake's Vow in a 2-in-1 edition hc. I got it back when Doubleday Book club actually had Historical romances, but I digress.
I'm still actively looking for a couple of books in hc, both by Julie Garwood, Rebellious Desire and Honor's Splendor. Let me tell you, they are really hard to find. I could only find one copy of Honor's Splendor and it was going for $300! That's crazy. And it wasn't even in good condition, only acceptable. I want it but not that badly. I can't even find a used pb copy for less than $65. Rebellious Desire is a little more reasonable at about $29, but, once again, only in acceptable condition. If it was in brand new, like new or even very good condition, I may consider it. But I really don't want to pay more for a used book than what it was when it was brand new. I hope that made sense
I've looked on every used book website. I have them on my wishlist on pbs. I've looked at the Salvation Army. I even have a friend from paperback swap looking for me. She travels a lot and goes into used book stores and nothing. I only have one used bookstore near me and they didn't have it either. I even went to The Strand bookstore in NYC. They say that they have 2.5 millions books and offer the most diverse selection of books. Not true. They don't have Historical romance novels and I've checked a few times. They don't even accept them when you want to trade them in. So they really aren't that diverse. How can you not sell the genre that makes the most money?
Once again, I digress. I know I could get ebook versions but I only get my favorite books in ebook. This was I always have them with me. Or if they are free
What are your thoughts?
