Reign to Ruin by Zoey Ellis
4 Stars
H - He's deliciously dark, sexy, rich, powerful, a king, huge is size, strong (said to be the strongest with magic), OTT controlling, possessive and would totally be j/p if given the opportunity. (He's the King so there weren't many opportunities for j/p scenes.) He's also an alpha anti-H.
h - Smart, loyal, not a bitch
Sex - Very steamy with bondage. (She's almost always restrained during sex.)
3rd person POV with POV from H and h
No ow/om
No cheating (H had been celibate for years.)
Triggers - Dark subject matter. The H deals with human trafficking and has sex slaves (he doesn't use them). Some of the slaves are treated so harshly by task masters, they die. He seems unfeeling as to their predicament and appears to view them as cattle. It's not clear at this time if that's what he really feels as there are hints things might be different than they appear to be. He makes a lot of money from the sex-slaves and is known for having the best. There are hints that children are used for something but it's uncertain at the present time what that is. It doesn't appear to be sexual.
Big Cliffhanger
This book was sooo different than what I expected. I initially liked it but I freaking loved the direction it took at the end. Wow! I didn't see that coming. I was absolutely gobsmacked and can't wait for book 2!
Before I began reading this, I knew it would be very different from the Myth of Omega series and it was. Myth of Omega focused on the couple, their relationship and his over whelming desire for the h. This book focused more on the foundation for the unique story that Ms. Ellis has created. The relationship between the H and h, while there with some super hot sex scenes, didn't appear to be the focal point of the story.
You see, the H was focused on something else. Something that's a mystery to the reader but of the upmost importance to him. He desperately wants an omega and it seems for a reason other than to have a mate. A mate makes a man weak and he can't afford to be weak. He has a country that depends on him to protect, so he must be strong. When the H discovered the h was an omega, he was thrilled. He felt drawn to the h, possessive of her and at the same time fought his feelings. He didn't want to want her like he did.
As the story progressed, a slow crescendo began to build toward the main event and holy freaking heck! Wow! I knew something was up but had no idea. I don't want to say more about this because it's pivotal to the story but realize patience is a virtue and you will be rewarded with a doozy of a cliffhanger, lol. I absolutely LOVED the direction this book took and can not wait for the next one. I do recommend this book to anyone who loves omegaverse stories and is ok with a slower burn with the relationship building & romance (not the sex).
