Dirty Bruised Martini by Nikki Belaire
Rec - 5 Stars!
I rec this one for pretty much everyone here except those with rape triggers. It's very different from my typical recs but I just loved this one so much and I think (I hope) most of you will as well.
H - J/P in his thoughts. Due to the story that was told, there weren't J/P scenes but he has the, "Mine! Mine! Mine! I'm never letting her go even if she wants to go." mentality. He's a mafia boss, an alpha, possessive, good to the h and totally head-over-heels in love with her.
h - Amazing!
First person POV with POV from the H and h. Written in a diary format.
Sex - open door & steamy
Triggers - h is raped and abused by a bad guy repeatedly. This happens in the beginning of the book. No cheating. No sharing. No ow/om drama. Neither even look at another.
HEA with a great epilogue!
Wow! This story is soooo good and it caught me completely off guard. I have to be honest, I've never read a book written in a diary format and had zero desire to do so, as to me, it's off-putting. I know that's terrible of me to say but it's the truth. I can guarantee I wouldn't have read it if I hadn't been given an ARC. Thank you so much, Nikki Belaire!
So it was with those preconceived prejudices in mind that I read this book and I. Was. Blown. Away! I loved it!
***** Very minor spoilers*****
The book began while the h was in the clutches of an evil man who did horrible-HORRIBLE things to her. He's an enemy of the H's and kidnapped the h with the intent to degrade, humiliate and violate the one thing the H loves. What he did to the h is awful and though you're not there as it happens, you are in her thoughts, experiencing her feelings as she writes in her diary.
When the H finally rescues her, she's broken. She's so traumatized, she shies away from the H's touch. As his every breath is for her, you can imagine what this does to him. It guts him. He then begins to care for her to try to help her heal from her ordeal and at the urging of her counselor, begins to write in a diary as well.
Thus begins this couple's journey back to each other and I have to say it was incredible! The ending and epilogue were perfect! How is it possible that a h could go through what she did and the book end with me feeling so good? Yet it did. It was a beautiful story of unconditional love and redemption; of healing and of hope. Yet it still had a smokin' hot alpha, with a dirty mouth, a possessive streak a mile wide and open door, steamy sex scenes.
I know the diary style is off putting but give it a chance. I thought this book was incredible!
