This book had some laugh out loud funny parts. Susannah is desperate to capture one of the Zyrgin warriors in order to sell him to the Resistance. Susannah decides to dig the punishment pit deeper and put sharpened sticks in the bottom to catch the alien. Susannah digs the pit deeper each day but Azagor digs the pit deeper each night in order to be “captured” sooner. He jabs himself with one of the sharpened sticks so he can get sick and have a fever and then Susannah will take care of him and sponge him which will cause her to fall in love with him. Azagor considers himself a forward-thinking, modern Zyrgin warrior unlike some of the other tradition bound warriors.
This book also has some tragic parts about Susannah’s kidnapped baby son. I wanted to kill the leaders of the religious cult who tortured Susannah and her baby.
