Don’t Tempt Me – Georgian 4 – Sylvia Day

As a mystery with some suspense, this book was a real page turner. It kept me guessing until the very end. I didn’t see most of the twists and turns coming. It was well written, fast paced and unpredictable. As a romance, it sucked hairy tennis balls.
One of the things that defines a good romance for me is the amount of time devoted to the development of the lead characters and their romance. Mostly their romance. Less than 30% of this book fell into that category. There were two other couples, one of whom does not even get an explicit resolution (it is implied, but still). We also get the POV of a couple of other characters too. Add the distraction of the suspense and the mystery, and the “main” couple didn’t get much page time devoted to their romance.
So if you want a great suspenseful mystery with some explicit romance thrown in, you’ll enjoy it. If you want a traditional romance, this isn’t it.
The story starts with a man and his mistress. The mistress is highborn but gave up an engagement to a viscount to be the mistress of a marquis. They are very much in love. But someone is trying to separate them. In order to save her lover's life, the woman agrees to marry her former fiancée and go away with him.
Fast forward 20 or so years. The woman is back in Paris for the first time, with her daughter. They are still mourning the loss of the daughter’s identical twin sister. Except she isn’t dead. She’s lost her memory and been turned into an assassin. And that’s not even the first half of the book!
