The Marriage Test, middle ages era in France.
Gave it 4 of 5 stars.
Griffin a count/ knight/ vintner, had a super-sensitive sense of smell. He wore a metal clip on his nose. If the food did not smell good,
he did not eat, and that made him grumpy. Two of his knights asked to eat at the convent. The food was super-delicious. Griff, in the
guise of a poor man, entered the convent & stole food IE meat pies, bread etc. He sat there and devoured it. Head cook Julia caught
him red-handed, with sauce and crumbs on his face, hands and garments. Long story short, Griff arranged w/ the abbess to hire Julia
as his cook x 1 yr, w/ the convent getting the profit. The H + h were accompanied by a nun chaperone.
Griff at first acted indifferent towards Julia's cooking, when he secretly loved it. He castigated her for spending too much money on
spices etc needed to enhance his meals. When actually she knew how to bargain with merchants. At one point, Griff's enemy got to
him through Julia. Griff became besotted.
This story had romance & wit. Jacques (2ndary character) had a pet pig who went Truffle hunting w/ him in the woods. And a 2ndary
lady found love too.
I really like this author's creativity and writing style.
