The Bridal Season
I gave this Victorian romance 3 of 5 stars.
Letty was a Cockney 'confidence trickster' being chased by her mentor the criminal Nick. Letty did not consider herself a criminal,
she ran schemes, IE she taught her little dog to lift purses. Lady Agatha, a wedding planner/ daughter of a duke, impulsively left
England with her sweetie to wed in France. Agatha dropped her train ticket at the RR station and Letty claimed it.
Letty arrived at a small town and all assumed she was Lady Agatha the wedding planner. Letty a former actress/ singer knew
various accents. So she became Lady A. Eglantyne, aunt of the future bride Angela, asked (dreamy) Sir Elliot March (also the
magistrate) to provide transport back home. Elliot was suspicious of "Lady A" (Letty) from the start. Eggie and family housed
Letty and Letty altered clothing to fit her ( the real Lady A sent her trunks ahead to Eggie's home).
IMO unconventional Letty did not "pull off" becoming Lady A. There were too many 'red flags.' My favorite scene: mediocre singer
Catherine (the H's sweetheart who married his BMF while H served in the Army) thought to shame Lady A. by pressuring
Letty to sing. But could Letty sing! Elliot: nearly the perfect male, felt real-deal love for the 1st time.
Two issues were too neatly resolved: reactions to Letty's true ID & the H+h's relationship.
