Yorkshire, England 1893. Kisses only. Gave it 4 of 5 stars.
Tolly Deverell of Scotland Yard came to town to solve a murder. He met Lucy, who just started a
custom bakery & small tea shop. Their attraction was electric. Loved the secondary characters &
the wit, especially provided by local Sgt. Moffit and Lucy's partially deaf assistant, Mary, who
got in zingers via comments and sign language.
Tolly showed his expertise working the case. And was overwhelmed at times by Lucy's attention.
The story's end felt too abrupt.

Tolly & Lucy grew closer in this story. Tolly lectured Lucy on hiring a Hungarian (?) man she barely
knew to work in her bakery/ shop.
Tolly, now Detective Inspector, investigated 2 murders: one from 1884 & 1894 (current day). Each
involved: a woman found w/ a bloody weapon & a dead man, but no dead body. Clever Tolly solved
both cases.
This had more mystery than romance & witty comments. Constable Hastings provided unintended
humor. The author hinted there would be another book involving Tolly and Lucy. Tolly wanted to
investigate: was his 1st wife Emmaline murdered?
