Man, some of the characters in the Tear Asunder series have some horrible childhoods. Wow.
In Overwhelmed by You we see how abused Ream (and his sister, Haven) were from a very young age. The sexual abuse happened as teens. If you have triggers about such things this series is not for you.
Ream never lied about his life being a mess; that what happened to him is such a deep part of him. In this story even his past won't leave him alone and ultimately drags Kat in to it. Something he never planned to do. (Just like Emily being dragged into Logan's nightmare in Torn From You.) In the beginning, and when Ream was trying to show Kat that things could be good between them, I did get tired of the "I'm with someone else" mantra. Naturally that finally ended when the backstory of what Ream went through as a teenager was revealed.
***I read the novella and book #1 awhile back and had to re-read them. It had been too long and I lost the details of the story.***
