Cornwall 1815. Clean romance. Gave this 3 of 5 stars.
This MOC had mystery and sabotage too.
Abigail & Uncle Ellis resided in an abode attached to a lighthouse. He was the official lighthouse keeper (until he injured
his knees 1 yr ago.) Ab served as cook, housekeeper, stable hand, lighthouse keeper. Several times a night she refilled the
oil lamps after climbing 100+ steps. She watched for shipwrecks. She distrusted most people, and had little time to socialize
or attend assemblies.
Captain Gavin Kendricks of the Royal Navy & his 200 sailors were involved in a shipwreck on a stormy night. Ab used her
rowboat to rescue Gav & his 1st Lt. Ellis knew Gav and his late sire. Gav took care of some business, then stayed 1 week
w/ Ellis & niece.
After a series of events Gav proposed a MOC & Ab accepted. A snobby widow and dtr acted cruel toward Abigail. This
culminated in a dinner party snobby hosted & newly married A+ G attended (while 1st Lt manned the lighthouse). Gavin
acted oblivious to Ab's humiliation at the hands of snobby hostess. Ab left early. I was 'all in' on this story until Gavin
showed his cluelessness. He redeemed himself. But did Gavin closely observe Abagail and her body language? She put
up with enough guff in her life, she didn't need him to "pile on" also. This couple had potential.
You would think a man who managed 200 sailors would be able to determine snobby widow's hidden agenda from the onset?
