Our poor FBI H is having a bad day. He is accosted by a crazy woman when he tries to park in front of the apartment building containing the safe house, where he is due to start his shift. Apparently there is some code about parking spaces and snow. Then somebody comes running out of the apartment with a young child under his arm and the next thing he knows, the crazy woman is in his car, insisting they give chase. Since he recognizes the child as part of the detail he's supposed to be protecting, he follows them. They get stuck on an overpass and watch as the kidnapper stops at a gas station and the car (with the child) is stolen by two little old Indian ladies.
It gets stranger. Oh, so much stranger. If you read and liked Agnes and the Hitman, you'll probably like this. There is very real suspense, but it is all laced with a wry sense of the absurd. It isn't laugh out loud funny, but I was smiling through most of it.
I very much enjoyed the story. As a romance, however, I felt it lacked a bit. Maybe my expectations were too high, as I wanted the kind of romance that we get from Elizabeth Hoyt. Also, I'm not a fan of the extremely quirky h.
