My wife has been trying to remember the name of a book for some time. We have searched various databases with no luck. Hoping someone can help. Below is an overview of the things she can remember.
One line summary Two souls are romantically involved in two separate lifetimes.
The story -The story begins in the past. Two lovers are walking in Harlem at night. A crime happens and one of the lovers is shot and killed.
-Fast forward (presumably in a different life) - Guy 1 and Girl 1 meet at a book signing and start dating. Guy 1 wants his best friend (guy 2) to meet his new girl (girl 1).
-Before they can be introduced, girl 1 and guy 2 meet, coincidentally, in the grocery store and are instantly attracted to one another. They touch hands and guy 2 instantly gets the sense that he knows girl 1 very well. It seems that girl 1 and guy 2 are the reincarnated souls of the couple from the shooting.
-Eventually guy 1 is able to introduce his friend, guy 2, to his new girlfriend, girl 1. Of course girl 1 and guy 2 already met in the grocery store, but they do let on that they know each other from that encounter.
-During the course of the story we learn that girl 1 is receiving counseling from a therapist (girl 2). Girl 1 tells her therapist all about her new boyfriend (guy 1) and his friend (guy 2).
-Later we learn that the therapist (girl 2) is in fact married to guy 2. This ends tragically.
Additional Information My wife believes that she was reading this no later than 2009 and the main characters are African American.
This is as much as my wife can remember. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
