This one was a great entry in the series. Throughout the other books, Alex Aero has been a sarcastic, hard nosed S.O.B. He's also had some bad stuff happen to him because he helped the McClouds. He's had two vehicles destroyed and the house he was constructing was blown up. He's understandably wary of helping them again. In fact, he says no, repeatedly. Then things come to a head and he, against his better judgement, goes to help the h, Nina. He ends up holding a naked, terrified Nina in a house with several people he's just had to kill.
Nina has been injected with an unknown substance by a dying friend. Turns out it creates/amplifies psychic abilities. Nina and Aero end up on the run from the super duper mind-control-Psychic bad guys, one of whom is Aero's cousin. Aero had been hiding from his Mafiya family for almost 20 year. Not only are they trying to stay alive, they are trying to find the vial with the antidote to what Nina has been injected with. They have 3-4 days before she begins to die. She'll be dead in five days without it.
This book has flashes of humor in it. Aero is such a sarcastic SOB and some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth made me grin. Nina gives it right back. She was kick-ass when she had to be. There was one point where another character accused Aero of being "as mean as a rattlesnake with PMS". I gotta remember that one! I took off a half a point for the insta-love time frame. Bugs me when authors have a couple base a lifetime commitment on 3 days of suspended reality.
