1) A Holiday Engagement: by M A Nichols, a Regency. Gave this 4 stars.
Christmas Eve in Essex 1820. Kisses-only.
Charity was shrewish like her mom. She fought w/ anger and sorrow and was the town pariah.
She mis-read Simon and thought he'd propose: he married someone else.
Charity danced w/ handsome and glib Navy Lt. Thomas Callahan, on shore leave. She thought
he mocked her and she insulted him. She needed a Dale Carnegie class before it was invented?
Charity did honest self-reflection and made a concerted effort to change. A group of folks played
parlor games and spontaneous responses 'struck a nerve' w/ Charity and a few others.
This had great dialogue, also love, forgiveness, & humor. The emos were genuine.
2) A Regency Scandal by Alice Chetwynd Ley. Gave this 3 stars.
A kisses-only story which covered England 1789-1816.
An arrogant earl had a rocky road, as did his successor son Neville (a spineless liar), as did his
heir/ son/ viscount Anthony. But Anthony valued the truth.
This had several couples who fell in love. I liked the Rev. Theo Somerby & his family the best.
This had a revenge plot and felt too long and repetitious.
