my youngest daughter is getting married on July 26th in Jasper National Park at the Athabasca River. This is the second marriage for both; they had the big white weddings the first time around.
My daugher is thinking about wearing a very colourful short dress Rosalind. Any suggestions what I should wear? short? long?
Be careful what you wish for, it might just come true.
Congratulations, I clicked the link and asked my husband to marry me there one day. I would go for a midi style as everyone here is already suggesting, Nordstrom has some really nice ones for summer time. The length is short enough to keep you cool, but long enough to show mother of the bride without being matronly and can be worn to more than one occasion. I'm going to have to start looking at similar dresses for two weddings I have to attend (one in the states, the other one in Puerto Rico).
Once again congratulations to the bride and groom.
I remember having the hardest time finding a dress to wear to my son's wedding. I wear a size 0 or 2, and I'm 5'10" tall. Most of the "dressy" dresses in my size in regular stores looked like Mama be hookin' at the reception. I ended up ordering one from the JJ's House website.
The last wedding I went to there was some bits of wind and I spent a good bit of time batting my skirt down to preserve some modesty. So more streamlined and less flirty would have been easier.

that is part of my issue, I am 5'2" and weigh 170, depending on the item and manufacturer my size varies from 16 to 22.
Locally, the only stores carrying my size range specialize in synthetic materials that I can not wear. We do not have a Lane Bryant equivalent. As a result, most of my clothing purchases are on-line.
Janie, I most certainly do not want that to happen. in the valley where the ceremony is being held the winds can get gusty.

Hi Janie, I've read that the senior female Royals in the UK have magnets sewn into their hems to cut down on the modesty issue when the wind blows. Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,
Thereās an idea. I wonder if the dress designers cringed with the flow of their garments once the magnets were placed and the international news cameras were documenting. I will be watching those outside walkabouts with new eyes. š

The idea was to weigh down the dress. Not fool-proof. The flow of the dress can put the 'princess-look' in a future princess. The Royal duties would be fun ie to mingle with people, but sometimes too much the same. And to travel to former colonies from which your country stole natural resources- hard to defend this.

Cheryl, most of my experience with dress designers comes from the Forresters on The Bold and the Beautiful. They are forever adjusting this or that to āensure the flowāā¦ so while I get the reasoning of using the magnets, I couldnāt help projecting designer angst. LOL
All countries have their dark shameful periods, indefensible but churning ever forward. Our government waging war on Native Americans and putting them on stark reservations comes to mind today.
Iām more interested in what Janice has found to wear to her daughterās wedding. How goes the shopping, Janice?

Janie, my sister and I are going to West Edmonton Mall (the second largest in North America) to look. Spring stock is slowly starting to appear at some of the stores. I did buy one last week when I was looking with a friend as a possible. I love the back view, hate the front . Pria Curve Button. I have it in the 16 but I think it is a tad big. And I'm not fond of the colour.

BTW huge shock for me, last top I bought was a size 20. I know I've lost 10 pounds over the last year but 4 dress sizes?

Janice, I like the front more than the back. LOL Surprised itās not longer.
Parkville Spot is a fancy name for off-white? Iām not crazy about it either, but thatās not one of my better colors. Is that the only color it comes in?
Seeing your add-on about losing 10 lbs. and four dress sizes. Thatās the problem with buying clothes, itās a gamble what youāll end up with from one company to another on sizing. I hate shopping. Congrats on the weight loss, itās nice when that happens.
