My Next Breath - Obsidian Files Book 2 - by Shannon McKenna

Genre - romantic suspense with a bit of sci-fi (genetic modification)
No cheating. No OW/OM drama. No obvious triggers except generic violence.
This author can write heart pounding suspense amazingly well. This book was slightly lower key than some of her others, but not by much. IMO you REALLY need to read the first book before this one. The assumption is that you already know about their genetic modifications and the implications. The story is complete in that it is the complete storyline for one couple. But the over-arching story neither starts nor ends in this book. I will definitely watch for new books in this series.
In the previous book, the H and his fiancee break up right at the beginning. That fiancee is the h in this book. The H is one of the genetically modified super soldiers group that were introduced in the last book.. Zade is stalking Simone because her stepfather seems to be working with Obsidian (the bad guys). He hopes she might know something about his missing brother. He sets her up with car trouble and some waiting thugs so that he can rescue her.
He gets more than he bargained for. He quickly suspects that she's been modified as well, except she doesn't know it. Plus, there's that whole insta-lust thing getting in the way of rational thought. There are multiple bad guys after them. Every time they put one down, another one pops up to take his place. It's a mad race to keep Simone safe and try to find Zade's missing brother.
This book gets a better rating because the editing was better and there was more of an HEA. But it wasn't as intense as the previous book.
And can I just say, the titles of these books "Right Through Me" and "My Next Breath" - pure genius!
