Post Apocalyptic
Rating 3 stars
I just finished Fire in His Blood by Ruby Dixon. The story is about h, Claudia Jones who is attempting to survive 7 years after the dragons came, destroying the world and killing billions of people. Claudia lives in Fort Dallas with her sister, Amy and her best friend, Sasha. When the book begins, Claudia is in jail for having attempted to sell batteries on the black market among other crimes. Survival in this town is difficult and her options to feed herself, Amy and Sasha are to either break the law or sell herself. When she is brought before the mayor he wants to exile her however the captain of the militia has another idea.....use her as dragon bait. There have been rumors that a girl in Fort Orleans tamed a dragon which caused the dragon attacks to stop. The remainder of the story is what happens after...... here is a hint..... the dragon doesn't eat her or rend her limb from limb.... haha
i read the reviews for this book prior to reading and was ready for a slower pace. Many reviewers disliked the h (said she was whiney and complained too much) and that it was repetitious. I would agree with the slowness and the repetition but I personally didn't dislike Claudia. She has had to live day by day just surviving and all because the dragons came to this world(we don't learn where they come from in this book,BTW). She has seen the destruction and death that they cause. I would expect due to 7 years of hard living and being immersed in this reality, it would take time to trust no matter how caring and wonderful the being seems to be. I would whine and complain more than she did, most likely. I would have preferred a little less repetition as it wasn't necessary to inundate the reader with Claudia's worry over situation or her sister.
The H, Kael, was lovely. He was all about the h from the moment he met her. He was fiercely protective and desired nothing other than making her happy.
I am not quite sure why I didn't enjoy this story more. I am not a fan of post apocalyptic settings which could be part of it. I would definitely have preferred to have more details about the dragons and where they came from. At approximately 70% in I was ready for the story to be finished. Overall, this wasn't a bad read. The story is written well and there weren't a lot of typos. I like both the h and the H. I would read another book by this author.
