Dragon Marked, Dragon Mystics, Dragon Mated
This series revolves around our h, Jessa, and her chosen pack, Braxton, Maximus, Tyson and Jacob. These characters live in an exclusively supernatural town that is protected from humans and guards the only supernatural prision in America. There are many such towns across the globe, with a higher concentration in Europe since there is a majority of supes on that continent. There is something big that is about to happen and Jesse may be the key. Simplistically, this is a fight between good and evil. More specifically, it is the fight to save the supernatural races from a megalomaniac.
What I liked:
Jessa was a special snowflake which is typical in the YA/NA Urban Fantasy genre. Though many readers hate this, I love it. I don't want my h to be so overpowered that there aren't challenges or growth of the character but I love a strong, special h. I find so much enjoyment as the character's differences are discovered along with why she is different. I especially love it when she can kick ass and hold her own.
Jessa is 22 but in this world that is very young. Many might be put off by her immaturity and violent streak. I love a snarky h though and her lack of maturity fit within the bounds of the world the author created. I was often amused by what she thought and said hence this being in my list of pros.
Braxton, the H, was a very dominant, possessive character. Since the romance is secondary, you don't get to see a great deal of this but he was totally believable as a dragon shifter. I loved his character as well as those of his brothers ( they are quadruplets).
What I didn't like:
The first couple of chapters were rough. The writing felt like it was targeted to a much younger audience and I wasn't sure I would connect.
This book is on Reverse Harem lists but is not Reverse Harem. Well, unless I am misunderstanding what that sub-genre means. She is extremely close with the quadruplets but it is platonic with the exception of her mate. I was actually happy it ended up one girl one guy but wondered who the other partners would be after some foreshadowing regarding other love interests for the rest of the quad. This took me out of the story. I couldn't reconcile an overly protective, possessive, dragon shifter being OK with sharing his woman with his brothers much less anyone outside the pack. For this reason I stopped reading the series and started reading GR reviews since I couldn't seem to enjoy the book without knowing. Of course, this spoiled a lot of major plot points for me.....sigh
Overall, I was thoroughly entertained with this series. There is a spinoff series that has partially been written about the rest of the quad and another major character. This new series will hopefully tie up the loose ends since ther was not an epilogue and many dangling threads regarding secondary characters.
