Do you consider "clean romances" kisses only? I do. Can a clean romance have short spiritual passages? Or is it then "inspirational? I don't mind a romance w/ slight spiritual, but I draw the line at preachy characters.
mlover, clean romances are ones where love scences are behind closed doors, or fade to black. You will know they are intimate but it is not talked about. It can also be just kissing, holding hands or snuggling. Clean romances dont have to be spirational at all. Some clean romances are inspirational and some are religious in nature. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I read mostly HRs, which are clean to sexy, at either end of the spectrum. Or somewhere in the middle. And have only read a handful of fade to black stories.
The Measure of Katie Calloway was one of my fav "clean" romances. After the Civil War, Katie and her brother escaped her abusive/ unstable husband, they traveled & she took a job in a Michigan lumber camp as a cook. She made an apple pie (?) for the lumber camp owner, then he hired her. One of the lumber men was a former preacher, so it had some spiritual content. She and the boss slowly developed admiration then love. Boss man knew she had a secret, but what was it? She'd never even think of kissing a man while she was still married.
Tealadytoo---- Yes you felt the love. And the challenges- IE the male cook disliked her, needed to find quarters for Katie and her sib. She having to wake up so early to cook, dealing with the trouble-making men who visited camp.
The Icecutter's Daughter was good too. Thanks for the recs! ML.
I don't usually read clean romances, but I picked up Cowboy Doctor (Sapphire Mountain Cowboys) by Rebecca Winters on Harlequin the other day. The blurb appealed to me because the H is a veterinarian on his family's ranch, and the h is an elementary school teacher working as a trail guide on a nearby ranch for the summer. Both characters were sweet and gentle, but the H was still very protective. The whole romance takes place over a week, so it is a case of instalove. The writing was rather simplistic in regards to sentance structure and vocabulary, but I still enjoyed the story. There was suspense and danger but no violence, fade to black intimacy after they are married, no stupid OTT arguments or the h putting herself and everyone around her in more danger out of a misplaced independent streak. It was a nice, feel good read with two beta but protective and strong characters.

Nice to read a romance w/o arguments or BIG MISUNDERSTANDING.
Eva Ibbotson wrote a charming, sweet romance originally called A Countess Below Stairs, now called The Secret Countess. A Countess Below Stairs. What ever name you want to call it, it's great.
The older I get, the more I gravitate toward these. It's not that I object to spice in a romance novel, but the spicy scenes get repetitive, and less adept authors tend to use them fill up the pages. You can't get away with this in a "clean" novel, so the odds are better of getting actual plot and characters, and I don't have to skip the sex scenes for pure boredom.

I agree, the spicy scenes annoy me if they are repetitive and worse, don't fit the characters or the plot. Some books are just gratuitous and salacious and written for shock value perhaps? I do enjoy some gritty, real life writers as well as books like Carla Kelly's with strong story, where I don't miss the spice element at all!
I recently read Cooper: Charmed by the Cowboy (Cowboys of Ransom Creek Book 3) by Debra Clopton. It's free right now and also KU. The writing wasn't perfect, but I did enjoy the story. It had good attraction and romance, but only kissing in the book. This author is pretty hit and miss for me, especially with my not liking many of her main characters, but I did like this couple.
I was looking for a section for Christian Romances. I guess this is the closest. My personal preference in romance books is sweet and kind and gentle. If the couple isn't married. Than they don't "don't do it" this is just my own taste. I'm certainly not a goody goody! I like kissing boys(too much I'm afraid to say) but I made a promise and a vow to myself to wait until marriage. I have spoken to my pastor's wife a lot about this. She understands that I'm slightly boy crazy and yet I have my own standards and values. She says she was a boy crazy teen, too. I wish it was that easy to talk to my mom about stuff like this.

I try to indicate if a book is Christian rather than simply a clean read. I very rarely read Christian romance, and dnf them quickly if I feel like I am being preached to. The problem for me is that I, too, love a sweet and gentle H and h, and those character traits can be difficult to find outside of inspirational romance.
