Book 1 - Devil in my Bed
Book 2 - Rogue in my Arms
Book 3 - Scoundrel in my Dreams
4.25 / 5.0
Heat 7/10
Genre - Historical Romance (books 1 & 3 are also 2nd chance romance)
Although these are three stand-alone romances, there is a strong over arching story line. The heroes are three friends. Friends from childhood. As book 1 begins two are in London and one is away at sea. They all have apartments at Brown's, an old but respectable gentlemen's club. H1 and H2 arrive at the club one day to find a little girl (3-4 yrs old) alone on the steps. She has a note pinned to her, stating that the money from the mother stopped coming and that the father resides at Brown's. Since there are only three men in Brown's young enough to have fathered the child, it must be one of the three friends.
Devil in my Bed - Aiden had an affair with a young widow named Madeleine. He proposed and she said no, so he stormed off four years ago and never saw her again. Now he wonders if she is the mother of this child. He finds her being accosted by a horrible man. She goes with him because she has no other choice. She lies and says the child is hers to buy herself time. But a secret from her past catches up with her.
Rogue in my Arms - Colin had an affair with an actress about 4 yrs ago. He wonders if this is her child. He sets off with the child to find her. Along the way he enlists the help of Prudence and her young brother Evan. He falls in love with Pru but is determined to marry the actress anyway, so the the child will not be illegitimate. Of course Pru is also hiding a secret.
Scoundrel in my Dreams - Jack came back from the war a broken man. One night with a woman saved his life. But she rejected him the next morning. Now there is a child that looks just like her. He goes to confront her, and she denies it and sends him away. When he returns to the club, he is accosted by Laurel, the younger sister of that woman, who demands to be given her child. It seems he spent a night with her instead. In a moment of panic, Jack locks her in an attic room. Now all he has to do is convince her to marry him.
I enjoyed all three of these books. They are each very different stories. The young child, Melody, is a wonderful character. She adds a great deal of humour and sweetness to the story, but doesn't overpower the romance. There are several other side characters as well, including Button, a dressmaker that appears in many of Bradley's other books. The romance is both sensual and sweet (but not sticky).
