Ok. I have no idea how to rate this. I hate reading books that are part 1 of whatever unless they are all out which in this case they are not so right away this starts with a negative. I was drawn in by the description and couldn't figure out how the authors could make a romance out of this. As far as traditional romance goes, they did not.
So if I were to rate this as a romance I would have to give it a very low rating. The relationship between the leads is very minimal and not monogamous at all on his part, although he has no choice in the matter and there are other things that would turn the majority of romance readers off I think.
Serious spoilers here! Do not read if you don't want to know!
However, if you go into it not expecting much romance, it is a good story but with an aggravating cliff hanger ending. I think I would have liked it better if the next ones were already out. I don't like being left hanging. This is not for people who like boy meets girl typical romance. This is more along the lines of Pestilence - Laura Thalassa style with lots of bad things and an occasional nice thing and not as much death. It kept my interest which is a rare thing these days! I would wait for the next one to come out first though. I may or may not read it depending on how long it takes to come out.

There are only 12(I think) men left in this world. The remaining men are put up for auction and encouraged to father as many children as possible looking for male children as they are rare. H has something like 200-400 kids, I think 5 or 6 males which makes him very valuable. He has regular "appointments" every day - minimum 3-4 with different women including the h and her sister who also gets pregnant by him (on the same day) h with boy and sister with a girl. At one point he is strapped to a "retrieval machine" for donations for months when he and h become difficult to control. h stages a rescue attempt with sister and ends up getting left behind so book ends with h giving birth basically in captivity while H and sister have escaped together (not sure how together as they don't go into that but if you try and tell me that this H goes from multiple sexual encounters every single day to cold turkey cut off I am gonna give you some side eye! At this point it would be like biting your nails, sure you want to stop but you end up doing it unconsciously because that is just what you do.) and he delivers their baby.
