I’m looking for a book that I read the blurb for and wanted to try but have forgotten the title and author, and sadly most of the plot! What I do remember is that it featured a Hero that appeared empty headed or weak, I think he was perceived as being a bit of a dandy/fashion plate but was actually much more than he appeared. Does this ring a bell with anyone, or can anyone recommend anything like this? I was always a fan of the scarlet pimpernel so this theme appeals!
Elissande Edgerton is a desperate woman, a virtual prisoner in the home of her tyrannical uncle. Only through marriage can she claim the freedom she craves. But how to catch the perfect man?
Lord Vere is used to baiting irresistible traps. As a secret agent for the government, he’s tracked down some of the most devious criminals in London, all the while maintaining his cover as one of Society’s most harmless—and idiotic—bachelors. But nothing can prepare him for the scandal of being ensnared by Elissande.
Forced into a marriage of convenience, Elissande and Vere are each about to discover that they’re not the only one with a hidden agenda. With seduction their only weapon—and a dark secret from the past endangering both their lives—can they learn to trust each other even as they surrender to a passion that won’t be denied?"
And your request led me to this enjoyable post from the Smart Bitches Trashy Book site that might also be of interes
One book that your article mentioned was The Secrets of the Heart by Kasey Michaels which I read and enjoyed. That's one I'm putting on my reread list.
She's an author whose name I know; however, I don't believe I've read anything of hers. Please let me know if the re-read holds up to your memories.

Kasey Michaels has been writing since forever, it seems. Her books have humor, interesting characters, and are usually light, entertaining reads, both contemporary and historical. One of my favorite books by Michaels, which I wrote briefly about on a thread here is The Toplofty Lord Thorpe. The characters are what makes this book so great, IMO. You have the h, Lucy, described as an outrageous imp, and the H, Julian, a stuffy prig. As least until Lucy gets through with him. It's fun.

That certainly does sound like fun, bonnieg! Thanks for mentioning it again.

I finished rereading Michaels Secrets of the Heart and enjoyed it very much. It has similarities to "The Scarlet Pimpernel" although the MC's aren't married, and our hero, Christian, is working undercover to improve the lot of the average person after the Napoleonic war was over. He especially focused on mill owners who were oppressing their workers. The heroine, Gabrielle, only saw Christian as a foppish dandy with no real goal in life except to dress elegantly. It is adventure that brings our couple together, so this is not the kind of book that has the romance front and center. But after a bit of explanation of the hero's motivation at the beginning of the book, the story takes off with humor, derring-do and a nice developing romance.
I really enjoyed this book when my father all but forced me to read it when I was about fourteen. In due course, my own daughter read it as a teenager. She loved it so much that she went on to read the half dozen sequels which I hadn't known existed.
