flipoid No, I haven't heard of Deanna Raybourn. I'll look her up.
Sounds similar to Amanda Quick's Tobias March and Lavinia Lake series. It wasn't my favourite Quick set, but it was OK. Third person
I think her books may be lendable. I can check, if you'd like.
Edit: the publisher's changed since the first book was released; the edition I have isn't available for purchase (thus not available to lend) anymore. Though if you use the library for ebooks, they should be available. The first one is only $1.99 at Amazon.
Also check out her Veronica Speedwell series. The first book is A Curious Beginning.
secretromancejunkie - When you receive a book loan, you get an email from Amazon. That email can sit for a week before the link expires. Once you use the link, it takes you directly into Amazon where you accept the loan. Once you've accepted the loan, you have the book for 2 weeks. At the end of the two weeks, the book is automatically deleted from your Kindle and returned to the sender. If you finish the book earlier and want to return it, you can go into the "Manage My Content And Devices" on Amazon and delete the loan.
I often find my opinion running counter to what seems popular with other readers. I have yet to manage to make it through a Mariana Zapata book. They bore me to tears.
Penny Reid is another. I dnf'd Neanderthal Seeks Human because I couldn't stand the h and the whole book was her POV. It was juvenile and the humor too contrived for my tastes.
Also, maybe I should hide as I say this, Kristen Ashley. I tried 3 of her books and dnf'd all 3. The style drives me nuts, and you will never convince me the H is a genius when he can't even speak in complete sentences. My inner editor got tired of rolling her eyes.
I co-sign to just about everything you wrote. I did like the first 3 or so Penny Reid published but the last few have been overwritten and dull. Mariana Zapata is hit and miss. Kristen Ashley is an author I have never been able to get into. I wish I could because she has such a long back list but, alas, nope.

I definitely agree with everyone KA is one where you either hate or love her. For me I just can't do it. I tried but the way the H acts just pisses me off. I want the h to stand up to him but even when she does it is glossed over by sex arrrrrggghh. Just talking about it annoys me.
I also had issues with Outlander and the whole her being married to 2 guys. My problem is she goes back and forth but never picks one guy to stick to. I just couldn't pick it up and it really bothered me.
Another book I could not pick up was Bared to You by Sylvia Day. I started reading it and just gave up. I like some dark themes but it has to be believable and done tastefully with just the right balance.
The first one I can think of is Dark Lover by J.R. Ward. I just didn't get what all the fuss was about.
I agree completely. When I first started seeing all of the hype, I was focused on UF. Years later I finally decided to try it since I was in a romance over action phase. It was OK, I guess. I definitely didn't love it or have any urge to read anymore in the series.
The Dartmoor series by Lauren Gilley a lot of readers seem to love this series but I can never get past the first few chapters and I have started it at least half a dozen times I just can't seem to get into it.
But I still have my copy and may try it again when I'm in a different mood. I just couldn't get past the opening parts where he is such an unrepentant creep. But I realize his redemption post-stroke is supposed to be the point, so I may be able to get past the opening when I am in a more tolerant frame of mind.

You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me.
Flowers from the Storm was a difficult one for me to get into. I really found the h to be too rigid and narrow in her views and the H didn't bother me at all but the overall book ended up being a good one although I did have a slight (very slight) feeling that the H was settling for what he could get.
Beautiful Disaster. I didn't hate it but after all 5* reviews and tons of recs across the romance forums, I expected something spectacular. It was just meh and I skimmed through few last chapters. I definitely read better books in NA genre so all the fuss around BD is completely inexplicable to me.

I felt Dark Lover was just ok, but the next two books in that series are very, very good. Once you get past the weird way they talk. After those two books they start to go downhill.

Hmmmmm..... maybe I need to give book 2 a shot then. I do love me some alpha vampires.
I couldn't get into Russian Mafia stories or any kind of mob romance.. coz I cannot suspend my disbelief enough to think that they'll all die hahaha I don't know why I don't have that problem with biker romance but I just don't dig mafia romance in general.
Also, I can't get into popular sports romance like basketball or even soccer but for some reason, I'm ok with hockey romance. Maybe hockey is ok because it's not super popular for the general population. Sports stars are dogs and I can't believe in their HEA. The exception is Heaven, Texas by SEP and her entire Chicago Stars series.
Neither mafia/mob or MC books appeal to me. I read the book blurb and just think that the characters don't seem to be very likeable people. I find it hard to believe in the HEA. Maybe I'm missing out on some great books, but they're just not my cup of tea.
As for KA, I've clicked on the look inside feature for the Kindle ebooks and couldn't even make it through the sample chapters. Something about her writing style just doesn't work for me. Her Hs seem like jerks and her hs seem to be very self-absorbed, kind of shallow and too focused on fashion. I do realize that I might not be giving her a chance, but I figure life is too short to have force myself to continue reading a book that just isn't working for me.
