Could it be Rules for a Proper Governess? If not, then it might be another one I read recently.


I know I've read something very similar to this recently. But I can't figure out which one it is.

In the book I read, the H had two boys. He left his two sons in the care of his wife and went away because she cheated on him. In fact, I think at least one of the boys is not his. His wife dies and now he has to try and rebuild his relationship with the boys. They are scared and mistrustful.

And I just figured out which book I'm thinking of. It's Duke of Pleasure. The h starts off disguised as a boy. She is the Ghost of St. Giles, a kind of Robin Hood character, who the H recognizes as female. The h ends up working for the H as young boy named Alf. The H doesn't connect her two personas for a while.

The H of this book is not scarred, but the one in the next book is.
