Long shot - h caretaker / H ex-con?

Hoping this opening scene might ring a bell for someone as I only read the sample quite a while ago and didn't save it to my wish list. Not sure I even have these details correct but here goes...h is driving up to the H's farmhouse. For some reason she is desperate for a job and is responding to an ad by the H for a caretaker (I want to say it's for his brother??). The H is an ex-con or otherwise perceived as dangerous and cannot get anyone else to even respond to the ad. All I know is the book is a contemporary.
