Ada becomes a pack horse librarian 2 years after she becomes a widow. She lives in Kentucky in the Appalachian Mountains and needs money to help support herself and her elderly parents. Since she was a teacher and knows the mountains...she takes the job. On her rides she meets up with a variety of people, but the most common factor is how poor they all are. One particular family pulls on Ada's heart. A widower with 2 children. He's been raising them on his own, in isloation, since the youngest was only 2 days old.
Carry the World is a romance, but it's a slow burn romance. This is when I say "It's not fast paced because it's about the journey". You get to know the people that live up in the mountains. You learn about community. About survival. About what's really important in life.
I listened to this book and the narration was really good.
