I prefer the Christmas movies during this wonderful time of the year.
It occurs to me, I've not had time to watch my favorites yet! Christmas in Connecticut (Barbara Stanwyck version!), Bishop's Wife, White Christmas & Holiday Inn, Christmas Carol (I love the Patrick Stewart version), Last Holiday, The Holiday, Love Actually, Christmas Carol with Mr. Magoo (that's reaching back a bit!) as well as Charlie Brown Christmas. I have others as well, but these are the main ones. I'd best get at it!
The Bishop's Wife is MY Christmas movie, too! Love Cary Grant! The kids use to enjoy The Muppet Christmas Carol, in-fact we watch it with the grandkids now! Saw The Holiday last weekend.
I always chuckle at the skating scene!! But yes, he's so good. At one point in the early filming, he was supposed to be the Bishop & David Niven the Angel. Glad they got that straightened out! The director changed & the new one saw the fellas weren't cast properly. Said he had to work to convince Grant; he wanted to be the Bishop. But later, was glad he did switch!

I don't go looking for Christmas stories, but they manage to find me. You can't help reading about the new books coming out with a Christmas connection, although I'm pretty picky about the books I choose. I have read several Christmas books over the years that have become favorites. This year, I would add Victoria Alexander's short story The Dance Before Christmas, mostly because of the great hero, and I'm looking forward to reading Jayne Fresina's new book The Snowdrop.
ETA My favorite Christmas movie is Albert Finney's "Scrooge." My family watches it every year and dances along with the film. We're very enthusiastic when we hear "Thank you very much." All I need to do is hear the first opening bars of the movie and Christmas is here!
lindap I watch The Muppets Christmas Carol, How the Grinch stole Christmas, The Nightmare before Christmas, Home Alone (Kevin!, everyone was just horrible to that 7 year old though),The Santa Clause, Jack Frost, Rise of the Guardians (My favorite). Home Alone is the family favorite. The nieces and nephew don't love it as much as my brothers and I do but oh well

Listening to Bing sing "White Christmas" does that for me! And I still love to watch him & Danny Kaye in their version of "Sisters"!!!
When I was growing up (way, way back) no videos, dvd's etc, so when they were going to run "Grinch" or "Charlie Brown" on tv; there we all sat, usually with popcorn, waiting! Same with the Wizard of Oz! Neighbors next door had a color set & they invited us over to watch Wizard one year; it started with that sepiatone & I thought "oh, no, the color broke!!!" I wanted to cry! But it was shades of brown, not black & white, so waited. Whew!!!!
ETA: Forgot to mention something a bit more relevant to the thread: I did start a Christmas themed book yesterday; saw a listing, read the beginning & it sounded like fun so I'm giving it a try. Not far in yet, but it starts with her car being repo'ed by Santa Claus thanks to her ex-husband...
Nope, don't look for or read Christmas / Holiday books unless it's part of a series I keep up with. The only exception are the In Death books but it doesn't have to be Christmas for me to listen to one of those. I scroll through my audios then pick one I'm in the mood to listen to again. Out of all my audio books J.D. Robb is the top author I go to when I want something I don't have to concentrate on. Ilona Andrews, Thea Harrison and Michelle Diener are also authors of audios I've listened to several times. I'm baking cookies with one of my granddaughters tomorrow. I'll probably start the audio to One Fell Sweep - Ilona Andrews. It's set at Christmastime and Sophie hasn't heard that one yet. If she doesn't want that we'll listen to Atticus: A Woman's Journey with the World's Worst Behaved Dog - Sawyer Bennett. It's one of Sophie's favorites and it's the audio she usually chooses on our road trips.
...and yet I see no fudge sitting on my doorstep...we need to talk!!

Believe me, if there was a way I could get a tin of baked flour and sugar to you without it going stale I'd be happy to share the calories with you. Friends don't let friends gain weight over the holidays alone, right?

Of course I'll share calories with you!! But after Christmas...all bets are off. It's so hard to be good during the holidays.
I may give in and read the newest Jennifer Ashley Christmas novella. (No calories there!)
I do tend to read Christmas books in December. The only Holiday movies I like are Rudolph, Sound of Music, Miracle on 34th St & Island of Misfit Toys. I find most Christmas movies too sappy ..... Ironic since I happily read HQ books.
