I forgot about both of those books! The Stand, which I still have my HB copy, is my favorite SK book. I don't read him anymore. And James Clavell's Shogun, actually the whole series, was wonderful. Thanks for reminding. It may be time for more rereads!
When Shogun first came out I had just had a surgery (hernia repair, I think). My parents came to visit and my father brought me a copy. He inscribed the inside to me. Now he's gone so it means that much more to me. He's the one who got me hooked on Michener's books, too.
I love Michener. I've read several of his books. I also have his memoir, and the book Creatures of the Kingdom. He was a master of descriptive passages and immersing the reader in the worlds he was writing about.
