I listened to Promise Not to Tell (Cutler, Sutter & Salinas, Book 2) - Jayne Ann Krentz with Audible Escapes (formerly Romance Unlimited).
Virginia is an art gallery owner and Cabot Sutter is is P.I. They have a shared history. When they were children their parents were involved in a cult. When the cult literally went up in flames the children had been saved my a policeman, Anson Salinas. All the kids were claimed by relatives except for 3 boys. Anson raised them as their foster father. As adults two of the men have joined with Anson in a P.I. firm.
Virginia hires the P.I. firm because one of the women who escaped the cult has died. The police say suicide but Virginia suspects foul play. The investigation leads them to secrets from the cult's past and romance.
It was a typical Jayne Ann Krentz romantic suspense mystery. Nothing great but not bad either. I kept thinking there was another book, maybe written under the Jayne Castle pseudonym that was about a shop owner and a P.I. investigating a suspicious murder or maybe disappearance, with a teenage relative helping out the hero. I felt as though I've listened to parts of the plot before. The little details changed but the main story was the same. Or maybe I've read / listened to so many Amanda Quick / Jayne Ann Krentz / Jayne Castle books that it's easy to find the similarities in style and plot.
Even though JAK's plots and characters are similar I do enjoy them once in awhile. This was perfect while I was cooking and wrapping gifts for the holiday.
