I liked both The Cyborg Next Door (Jit'Suku Chronicles 1) - Bianca D'Arc and Heart of the Machine (Jit'Suku Chronicles 2) - Bianca D'Arc .
Both were novella length so the relationships moved fast.
Roxy is a mechanic stuck on a space station until she can earn enough money to get back to earth. Chiron is her cyborg neighbor. Many are afraid of the cyborgs, they have no feelings or emotions. Roxy doesn't have the same fear and treats all life forms equally. When the space station is attacked by the alien Jit'Suku Empire most flee the station leaving behind those deemed unnecessary. That includes many women, children and cyborgs. The cyborgs are expected to fight until death. Fortunately the cyborgs are beginning to remember who they were and don't blindly follow orders any longer. They have a plan. If Roxy can fix the last old space ship left behind the cyborgs will help get all the women and children off the station.
I liked Roxy and Chiron as a couple. Roxy was smart and knew how to keep a ship running. Chiron was protective and able to overcome his insecurities of being a cyborg. They had their sexy moments but didn't lose sight of their mission.
In Heart of the Machine the refugees and cyborgs have to work together to survive on the space ship. Billie was a navigator in training and Medeus is the ship captain. Billie comes from a family of gifted navigators, her younger brother brother is her only surviving family. Her older brother was a navigator who was killed in action. As the cyborgs and women learn to work together romance blooms between Billie and Medeus. He's keeping a secret, he was the captain of the ship her brother served and dies on. With his recovered memories Medeus blames himself for the loss of his ship and crew. Both Billie and Medeus were smart and made a strong couple.
I enjoyed the setting of the ship and hope the author writes more about the cyborgs and refugees.
Though the books were short the author didn't sacrifice plot or character development. There were plenty of sex scenes but no one went stupid with lust.
