Bijou Hunter is a hit or miss author for me. I felt like reading something different. I liked the descriptions of Badlands and Shell Shock, they're both part of KU so I gave them a try.
I liked this 2 book series quite a bit. It starts with Sunny and her daughter Anika. After the death of Sunny's mother her father took her to live with the Children of the Black Sun cult. Within the cult rape, physical and mental abuse are the preferred methods to keep women in line. Thankfully none of the abuse was described in too much detail. Sunny and young Anika are helping at a vegetable stand for the cult when one of the cult leaders begins beating her. Kai and his sister Neri are the children of legendary hitman Gator and just visiting the US. Kai gets struck by the insta' love bug as soon as he sees Sunny. He and Neri rescue Sunny and Anika leaving a trail of dead and beat up cult leaders.
The books follow Kai, Sunny, Anika and Neri as they try to stay one step ahead of the vengeful cult on their way home to Nicaragua. Along the way they stay at a hitman safe house where they meet Cobain, who quickly becomes Neri's love interest. There was plenty of action and suspense along with the emotional transition Sunny and Anika have to make. There was sex, of course. I liked that the books were more plot driven and the sex scenes weren't overwhelming. I also liked that the story included each character's POV.
After I read the books I went back to Amazon for Gator to read his and Mia's story only to find I'd picked it up as a freebie May 2014.
As much as I liked the Spent Shells series Junkyard Dog is till my favorite Bijou Hunter book. It's hilarious and I re-read parts of it when I need a laugh. Plus it's free right now.
